National Energy System Operator (NESO) is seeking a Data Governance and Assurance Analyst to join the Regional Energy System Planner within the Strategic Energy Planning Team. This pivotal role is responsible for embedding and enabling data governance frameworks and policies within the RESP Team. You will enable first‑line assurance through collaborating with members of our data community to ensure data quality, maintain key governance artefacts, and drive continuous improvement in data management practices. Acting as a governance leader, you’ll provide expert advice, facilitate issue resolution, and support the delivery of robust management information. This is an exciting opportunity to shape NESO’s data landscape, working at the heart of our data community to ensure our data is accurate, secure, and fit for purpose. This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full‑time and part‑time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key accountabilities
- Support the design, implementation, and operation of standardised data sharing processes, including request intake, triage, approval, fulfilment, review, and closure.
- Support the wider data governance framework, contributing to governance artefacts, standards, and guidance relevant to data sharing and access.
- Act as a process expert for data sharing, supporting the day‑to‑day handling of data sharing requests and acting as the main point of contact for stakeholders.
- Provide assurance evidence, reporting, insights to governance forums, assurance reviews, and audit activities, highlighting risks, trends, and control gaps.
- Support the maintenance and assurance of a centralised data sharing and data request register, ensuring clear capture of purpose, access, approvals, and decisions.
- Coordinate and support the review, approval, lifecycle management of Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs), working closely with Legal, Information Security, and Data Governance.
- Assess data sharing requests for privacy, security, legal, and governance risks, escalating exceptions and supporting mitigation actions as required.
- Ensure all data sharing activities align with data classification, purpose limitation, access control, retention, and onward‑sharing principles.
