- Represent the team in agile squads, feeding in policy expertise to help shape solutions that drive how connection windows are run and managed.
- Support the wider Connections teams (such as customer operations, distribution, other policy teams) to translate policy requirements, consider downstream impacts, and help embed policy change across Connections.
- Support the policy oversight for checks required for Gate 2 readiness, including working with external parties, and contribute to training on Gate 2 readiness checks to drive consistency in outcomes.
- Handle customer and stakeholder queries relating to policy or code changes owned or shaped by the team.
- Engage with external TOs, external stakeholders and internal NESO teams on policy development.
- Support the team with the preparation of external materials and policies.
- Support updates to key internal and external reporting.
- Support in responses to Freedom of Information requests and/or complaints related to relevant policy areas owned by the team.
About You
- Passion for driving the energy transition and delivering Connections Reform with a positive mindset.
- Experience in a policy and change role either within industry or from a regulatory background so can hit the ground running.
- Proven experience of analysing complex problems or information such as data to produce policy insights to support business decision making.
- Excellent presentation skills and stakeholder management.
- Strong communicator and experience of working in an agile, high‑paced environment.
- Professional and high‑quality policy writing skills such as thought leadership or drafting guidance.
- Desirable but not essential awareness of land rights, planning consents and the critical pathway to demonstrate Gate 2 readiness as per the Connections Network Design Methodology and Gate 2 Criteria Methodology.
- What You’ll Get
A competitive salary of £56,000–£60,000 depending on experience and capability.
As well as your base salary, NESO’s core benefits are the essential perks and advantages that form part of your employee package.
- Bonus based on company performance.

About Us
At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain’s energy future.
We already operate the world’s fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon‑free for a short period this year – provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources.
Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.
In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO – an independent, expert public corporation with a whole‑system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen.
Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security.
Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system‑wide benefit, long‑term thing and public value.
Diversity & Inclusion
We are committed to building a workforce that represents the communities we serve, and a working environment in which each individual feels valued, respected, fairly treated, and able to reach their full potential.
We celebrate the difference people can bring into our organisation, and welcome and encourage applicants with diverse experiences and backgrounds.
