Every day is an opportunity to make a real difference, accelerating the progress of sustainable GB energy, keeping people connected and society thriving as we create a brighter tomorrow.

NESO is seeking a highly skilled, passionate and experienced Corporate Data Manager. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidate to engage with corporate directorates, understand their data priorities, related data requirements, and shape and embed the delivery of data capabilities across these directorates and their priority programmes, in collaboration with DD&T Delivery Teams, based on the NESO data standards framework in alignment with the NESO Data & Analytics strategy. This will require engagement with varying stakeholders, including Data Owners, Data Champions and wider Digital, Data & Technology (DD&T) Delivery Teams.

Reporting to the Data Partnering Senior Manager within the central Data function for NESO and supported by Data Stewards, this key role focuses on creating strong relationships with Corporate Directorates and DD&T Delivery and contributes to continuous improvements in developing the data partnering function to ensure the data team engages with directorates pragmatically and derives value to support NESO's strategic objectives and becoming a digital-first organisation. As such, it plays a key role in driving the reputation, critical delivery (both programmatic and operational), and strategy for data in NESO.

The successful candidate will need to provide thought leadership and initiative to drive a digital-first mindset, and require a strong combination of data management experience and depth, contributing to a strategic vision, strong team management, and relationship management with the ability to work with and influence stakeholders in achieving strategic priorities. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a company with a vision to be a digital leader in the industry and be a key contributor to the development of NESO as it pursues its role in transitioning the UK to a low-carbon energy future.

This role will be based in Warwick, with occasional travel to other NESO offices (mainly Wokingham) and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home with minimum 2 days per week in the office. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.

Key Accountabilities

  • Actively manage data workstreams components of NESO project initiatives, developing and delivering the data requirements in line with data policies and standards.
  • Manage the teams that deliver the initiatives, working with third party service providers in the delivery as needed.
  • Provide business data owners with hands-on data stewardship support and partnership to fulfil their responsibility to comply with data standards for data in their domain (data management, governance, cataloguing, monitoring, sharing and improving the quality of their data).
  • Build and maintain strong, lasting relationship with stakeholders within Digital, Data and Technology as well as broader partnership throughout NESO, to ensure their data needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
  • Drive Data Culture and Literacy to enhance the understanding of data concepts and ability to make the most of data across NESO.
  • Identify and ensure risks and efficiency opportunities in data initiatives are surfaced and addressed.
  • Ensure all risks and issues associated with the data-related activities from strategic programmes are captured and managed appropriately.
  • Act as a Subject Matter Expert with respect to data capabilities to support engagement across business initiatives.

About Us

National Energy System Operator (NESO) has a key role to play in tackling climate change by transitioning GB’s electricity system to net zero. We already operate the fastest decarbonising electricity system in the world, with an ambition for zero carbon power operation by 2030 when there is sufficient renewable generation. We are also providing advice to the Government on achieving a decarbonised power system by 2030. So, join the energy transformation and help shape the future. Your energy, our future, together.

In Autumn of 2024, the ESO transitioned to National Energy System Operator, or NESO for short. Previously denoted as the Future System Operator (or FSO), the new National Energy System Operator is the independent body responsible for planning Great Britain’s electricity and gas networks and operating the electricity system. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, are now at the heart of the new National Energy System Operator. As NESO, we will build on our existing roles, capabilities, and ways of working significantly to create an organisation the energy system and its users’ need. Our new capabilities will enable us to look across vectors, including electricity, natural gas and hydrogen, and crucially consider the trade-offs between them. The organisation is set up as a public corporation with its own Board of independent directors, with complete operational independence from government, the regulator and any and all commercial interest. As was the ESO, NESO will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements and obligated to identify optimal solutions to system operations and planning in the most sustainable, affordable and secure way for all.

The time to deliver is now. As part of our team, you won’t just be touching the lives of almost everyone in Great Britain – you’ll be shaping the way we use and consume energy for generations to come.
