Overview National Energy System Operator (NESO) is recruiting two roles within the Markets function: Senior Flexibility Strategy Lead and Senior Flexibility Delivery Lead. The NESO Flexibility and Electricity Markets Development team designs and delivers long-term and near real-time markets to balance and operate a secure, rapidly decarbonising GB electricity system, at lowest costs to consumers. This role can be based from Wokingham, Warwick or Glasgow, with hybrid working; open to full-time, part-time, and flexible arrangements. Responsibilities The following key accountabilities apply to the Senior Distributed Flexibility Strategy Lead and Senior Flexibility Delivery Lead roles: Develop holistic, net-zero compliant policy positions and shape NESO thinking to grow demand-side flexibility and meet Clean Power 2030 targets. Lead the investigation of risks and issues that could impact the delivery of more demand-side flexibility, and explore options to manage them. Ensure delivery of Enabling Demand Side Flexibility actions, working with NESO teams and the programme manager to align with CP30. Engage with internal and external stakeholders, ensure clear communications, and foster a collaborative approach. Understand interactions between electricity markets, investment policy and market participant behaviour; translate strategic intent into practical action. Represent NESO\'s strategy to stakeholders, including Ofgem and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero where relevant. About You We’re looking for visionary minds to join our transformative journey. The ideal candidate will have experience in market strategy, stakeholder engagement, and flexibility assets. Market Strategy Understanding of NESO’s balancing services markets and the role of flexibility in helping to achieve GB’s Clean Power 2030 target. Knowledge of GB electricity market policy and design, and the economics of investment in GB electricity assets. Experience with flexibility assets (battery storage, commercial/industrial DSR, EV, electric heating) and flexibility markets. Ability to think imaginatively about the impact of net zero on wholesale and NESO balancing service markets. Communication and Stakeholder Engagement Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present complex issues to audiences with varying levels of familiarity in power systems and markets. Strong interpersonal skills to influence and gain buy-in across an organisation. Senior Flexibility Strategy Lead Proven ability to develop strategies based on collaboration, expert insight and independent analysis. Ability to quickly understand a new challenge and develop a structured approach to address it. Proven ability to use quantitative and qualitative evidence to develop an independent viewpoint. Senior Flexibility Delivery Lead Experience in fast-paced environments, tracking and managing multiple project streams. Ability to translate strategic intent into practical action.
