About the Role

The National Energy System Operator’s (NESO) strength lies in our people. Together, we’re shaping the future where clean, affordable energy is accessible for all. Every day is an opportunity to make a real difference, accelerating the progress of sustainable GB energy, keeping people connected and society thriving as we create a brighter tomorrow.

The Investor Strategy Specialist plays a central role in helping NESO understand how its plans, decisions and programmes are viewed by the investment community, and translating those insights into analysis, advice and evidence that support investor confidence and the delivery of the energy transition. Through specialist expertise in investment analysis, financial modelling and capital markets, the role brings investor and financing perspectives into NESO's decision-making and contributes to NESO's analytical excellence.

This role sits within NESO's Investor & Commercial Finance team, which uses commercial and financial insight to challenge and shape technical solutions so they make financial sense, asking the right questions and using the answers to guide better decisions. The team is a translator of investor needs and insights, not just a provider of data: bringing investor insight in to shape NESO's plans, and translating those plans out into language capital markets understand, trust and act on.

Reporting to the Investor Strategy Manager, you will be a strong contributor in a newly established team, producing the analysis, research and market intelligence that underpin NESO's investor strategy and commercial work across investor relations and commercial advisory. This role will be based from Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home.

Key Accountabilities

  • Developing financial and commercial models that assess investment cases, risk allocation, returns, funding structures and financing approaches, providing evidence to support decision-making and the design of investable solutions.
  • Producing investor intelligence that supports NESO's strategy and decisions, maintaining the investor management framework, including investor mapping, tiering, personas and sentiment tracking, to ensure insight remains accurate, current and useful for decision-making.
  • Contributing to the design of NESO's commercial mechanisms and frameworks, providing the analysis and evidence that test how solutions can be made workable, financeable and deliverable.
  • Translating NESO's technical plans and outputs into clear, investor-legible materials, including briefings, insight reports, presentations and executive updates, and help bring investor perspectives back into NESO's programmes early enough to shape them.
  • Working across NESO teams to gather and quality-assure inputs, ensuring investor and commercial perspectives are grounded in accurate, current evidence and that materials provided to investors and senior leaders can be trusted.
  • Contribute to NESO's analytical excellence by acting as a recognised source of expertise on investment and financing considerations, helping develop capability, methodologies and best practice across the commercial, investment and economics community.
  • Support investor engagement, helping plan and run meetings and roundtables, and capturing the outputs into clear, structured intelligence and follow-up.
  • Track and record where investor and commercial insight has informed NESO's programmes, decisions or communications.

About You

We’re forging the path, and we know we can’t do it alone. That’s why we need visionary minds like yours to join us on this transformative journey. In this case, we’re looking for someone who:

  • Experience in investment, infrastructure finance, project finance, capital markets, commercial analysis, economics, strategic intelligence, investor relations or a related commercial field.
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling capability, including the ability to assess complex investment cases, commercial options and financing approaches, funding structures, returns and risk allocation. Experience developing investment-grade analysis within infrastructure, energy or capital-intensive sectors would be advantageous.
  • Interest in the energy or infrastructure sector, and how regulatory and commercial factors shape investment; prior exposure is an advantage but not essential.
  • A curious, rigorous thinker who asks the right questions and works readily across teams.
  • Comfortable working hands-on in a new, developing capability where approaches are still being established.
  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience.

What You'll Get

A competitive salary of £55,000 - £60,000 dependent on experience and capability. As well as your base salary, NESO's core benefits are the essential perks and advantages that form part of your employee package:

  • Cycle to Work Scheme, Retail & Gym Discounts.

About Us

At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030.

In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users.

Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thinking and public value.

The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future. Your energy. Our future. Together.

The National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation.
