About the Role
Great Britain’s electricity system is undergoing an ambitious transformation, moving toward a carbon‑free operation by 2035.
The Zero Carbon Operation team within NESO’s Networks department focuses on the operational requirements of the system beyond 2025, particularly the integration of electric vehicles (EVs) and electricity storage.
This fixed‑term contract (covering maternity leave) is based in Warwick (or Wokingham) and offers a hybrid working arrangement.
- Key Accountabilities
- Provide insights into changes affecting the operation of a zero‑carbon electricity system, forming the basis of strategy, decision making and policy development.
- Focus on the roles of EVs, storage, and flexibility, understanding and quantifying their system needs and exploring how other technologies can contribute.
- Use analysis and other methods to better understand and explain complex issues.
- Prepare content for internal and external presentations and reports.
- Prepare briefing notes to support internal decision making.
- Work with external stakeholders to improve mutual understanding of the interactions between their needs and the electricity system.
About You
Essential
- Recognised analytical and coding skills (e. g., Python, Power BI, advanced MSExcel).
- Experience analysing and presenting complex issues to a range of audiences.
- Ability to structure logical arguments and relevant evidence to support senior decision makers.
- Strong record of communicating complex ideas and representing NESO at external meetings.
- Ability to develop novel methods for improving understanding in areas with limited existing work.
- Ability to deliver all parts of a work package independently while also collaborating with others.
- Flexibility and agility to manage a wide range of issues and refocus rapidly if priorities change.
- Right to work in the UK by the start of employment; visa sponsorship may not be available.
Desirable
- Previous experience thriving in unfamiliar technically complex environments.
- High‑level understanding of electricity system planning and operation, wholesale markets, and ancillary service markets.
- Strong stakeholder engagement capability, including exploration of complex insights to influence stakeholders.
