About the Role
National Energy System Operator (NESO) recognises the potential of bright and talented individuals, and we encourage you to join us as Great Britain’s energy system undergoes an ambitious, exciting, and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. These are exciting times at NESO, particularly for the CFO function. Having become an independent public sector organisation in October 2024, we’ve been building and shaping our function, and its culture, ever since. Our new ERP system (Workday) comes with regular enhancements and feature releases, which means your role as Management Accountant will keep evolving – great news if you’re keen on continuously improving our processes! Alongside your core role of producing high quality financial insights for the business, we’re looking for someone with a passion to identify and deliver efficiencies in the way we work, as well as improving the quality of service we provide to our customers. You don’t need to be an expert in Finance yet – we’ll support you on your journey to becoming a qualified accountant – but we’re looking for someone with a passion to learn and apply that for the benefit of our internal customers and NESO. This role can be based in Warwick, and we continue to offer hybrid working from office and home. We are open to full time and part time applicants, as well as flexible working arrangements.
Key Accountabilities
- Effectively execute month end accounting processes (including balance sheet reconciliations), ensuring accuracy, integrity and completeness of financial information.
- Supporting the delivery of high-quality reporting, information packs, and commentary, allowing the Management Accounting team to provide insights that enable the business to make effective strategic and operational decisions.
- Delivering customer service excellence to internal customers, ensuring financial performance insights are delivered directly to the business and that all financial performance is understood.
- Providing timely responses to queries received relating to month end processes.
- As you progress with your exams and gain experience, you will be expected to face off directly to one or more area(s) of NESO, building trust and collaborative working relationships with them.
- Preparing forecast updates and provide effective narrative to internal customers to ensure the key messages are understood and that all business budget holders understand their budgets and forecasts.
- Supporting the effective operation of all relevant controls for the function, with deviations escalated and support for remediation is provided.
- Supporting the delivery of high-quality inputs to the regulatory reporting pack.
- Supporting the external audit process and provide responses to any related queries, to ensure the audit process is conducted smoothly and accurately.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK by the start of employment. Visa sponsorship may not be available for this role and will be considered in line with business requirements.
About You
In this case, we’re looking for someone who:
- Is able to effectively communicate the financial story, whether that’s verbal or presenting data in a more structured format.
- Has strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills, to enable effective internal working relationships.
- Displays a ‘can-do’ attitude, looking for continuous improvement opportunities to help the CFO function become fully digital.
- Committed to studying for a recognised accounting qualification, which will be funded by NESO.
- Experience of using Workday would be advantageous.
What You’ll Get
A competitive salary of £42,232.00 dependent on experience and capability. As well as your base salary, NESO's core benefits are the essential perks and advantages that form part of your employee package. You will receive a bonus based on company performance, 26 days annual leave as standard, and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. Annual Enrollment to NESO Savings Plan, when you save between £20- £500 a month from your take-home pay, we will pay a 50% matching contribution. NESO's flexible benefits programme provides you with more flexibility around your health, lifestyle and protection benefits.
About Us
At the National Energy System Operator (NESO), we play a vital role in tackling climate change and securing Great Britain's energy future. We already operate the world's fastest decarbonising electricity system and are working towards our ambition to run it carbon-free for a short period this year - provided the market supplies electricity exclusively from renewable sources. Alongside this, we provide expert advice to government on how to deliver a clean power system by 2030. In autumn 2024, the Electricity System Operator (ESO) transitioned to become NESO - an independent, expert public corporation with a whole-system view across electricity, gas, and hydrogen. NESO operates independently and transparently, always acting in the best interests of all energy users. Licensed and regulated by Ofgem, we make impartial decisions that balance sustainability, affordability and security. Our organisation is fully independent from government, the regulator and all commercial interests, with a clear focus on system-wide benefit, long term thinking and public value. The time to deliver is now. Join the energy transformation and help shape the future. Your energy. Our future. Together.
