Position Overview
We are currently seeking a Wales Policy Officer on a part‑time basis to promote the Union's policies in the Wales Government, the Wales media and support campaigning across Wales.
Responsibilities
- Promote the Union’s policies in the Wales Government, the Wales media and support campaigning across Wales.
- Apply knowledge of the education systems in Wales and the UK and relevant legislation to link with NEU member priorities, issues and concerns.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Write clearly and concisely, and present arguments with clarity.
- Apply understanding of trade‑union organising principles and campaigning activity.
- Travel as required to attend activities, conferences and meetings across Wales and nationally, including possible stays away from home.
Qualifications
- Good knowledge and understanding of the education systems operating in Wales and the UK, and relevant legislation.
- Ability to link legislation and policy with the priorities and concerns of NEU members in Wales.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to present arguments effectively.
- Knowledge of trade‑union organising principles and campaigning activity.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
- Work Arrangement
The normal place of work will be the NEU office specified in the advert, with blended working arrangements: typically 3 to 4 days a week in the designated NEU office (full‑time contract) and the remaining days based at home, subject to business needs.
