About the role: Exciting opportunity to join our commercial team in a Commercial Officer position supporting our business areas. You’ll support the provision of commercial services across the NCC in the areas identified below. The role holder is expected to work collaboratively with the Commercial Lead and with the relevant Sector Teams, using their judgement to identify high risk items and escalate as appropriate. You’ll also be responsible for ensuring the exposure to contractual risk is appropriately managed within relevant individual Sector Teams. This is a relatively junior role, so you will need some related experience to be considered but we are happy to provide training and up skilling.
Team Specific Activities:
- Supporting the Commercial Lead to develop sector specific ‘Commercial Road-Maps’ to ensure that commercial risk is appropriately managed.
- Supporting the Sector Teams in the review and negotiation of contractual terms relating to individual projects.
- Implementing and supporting contract management process and related activities.
Supporting the Commercial Team’s ‘Capability Lead’ for specific commercial processes. Examples of relevant processes include but are not limited to; Export control, including UK Export regulations, licence applications, ITAR and EAR compliance. Regulatory compliance, such as GDPR, Subsidy Control and Intellectual Property requirements.
What you’ll be doing:
- Support and management of contracts which do not use the standard NCC T’s and C’s, including, but not limited to: commercial research projects, collaborative research projects, including reviewing contract terms, NDA’s, grant offer letters, collaboration agreements and other relevant commercial agreements.
- Communicate and share commercial policies with the Sector Teams.
- Find pragmatic solutions to a range of NCC Commercial Issues that may arise on a case-by-case basis.
- Support the development of the Commercial Strategy as the NCC evolves over the foreseeable future.
- Act as Commercial Officer to selected Sector Teams.
- Support the development of a Commercial road-map for the selected Sector Teams.
- Supporting Project Managers on a case-by-case basis, tracking deliverables and ensuring deadlines are met.

Specific experience we will look for in your CV would include; This is a relatively junior role so we are open to a variety of backgrounds if you have had some experience in a similar role with a focus on contract management. If you had a background as a Paralegal, or a Law degree coupled with some relevant work experience that would be great. Experience in reviewing and advising on contracts and commercial documents. Strong organisational skills & good attention to detail. Experience of working with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. In terms of personal skills, we look for people who are proactive, curious, keen to learn new skills and balance risk management while working at pace.
