A voluntary role with the core aims outlined below:
- To maintain strong relationships with new and existing donors and supporters.
- To identify, assess and progress new grant sources and fundraising opportunities.
- In consultation with the Treasurer, Chair and CEO, to develop, implement and coordinate a fundraising plan aligned with budget requirements.
- To create, coordinate and support the work of the Charity’s fundraising volunteer committee.
- In consultation with the Secretary and Treasurer, to prepare and submit donor progress reports (narrative and financial), monitoring and evaluation requirements in accordance with donor criteria and deadlines.
- To maintain knowledge of current fundraising procedures and legislation affecting fundraising activities within the charitable sector.
Specific duties:
- To develop and implement a system to increase income:
- Providing regular information to Trustees, CEO and the Fundraising Committee about funding possibilities and opportunities;
- Working with the Trustees, CEO, new Fundraising Committee and other members of the Charity to create realistic and clear targets;
- Creating and providing information for applications for grants and subsequent monitoring and evaluation reporting;
- Promoting Gift Aid reclaims amongst fundraisers for the Charity.
- Organising, supporting and attending new and existing events where required;
- Working with the CEO, Fundraising Committee and supporting organisations to develop fundraising events;
- Contributing to an annual calendar of fundraising events.
General Trustee responsibilities:
- To ensure that the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and other relevant regulations.
- To ensure that the organisation pursues its objects as defined in its governing document.
- To ensure the organisation applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects.
- To contribute to the board of trustees' role in giving clear direction to the organisation, setting overall policy, defining goals and setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets.
- To safeguard the good name and values of the organisation.
- To ensure effective and efficient administration of the organisation.
- To ensure the financial stability of the organisation.
In addition to the above statutory duties, each trustee should use any specific skills, knowledge or experience they have to help the board of trustees reach sound decisions. This may involve:
- Scrutinising board papers
- Leading discussions
- Focusing on key issues
- Providing guidance on new initiatives
- Other issues in which the trustee has special expertise.
Skills/experience required:
- Experience of charitable fundraising environment and knowledge of fundraising ‘best practice’.
- Experience of prioritising and working to deadlines.
- Good communication skills (verbal and written).
- Commitment to support the aims of the Charity.
- Good, independent judgement.
- Proactive with the ability to think creatively.
- Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of the Trustee board and in close liaison with the CEO.
Commitment expected:
- Online attendance of Trustee meetings, starting monthly and then going to quarterly from Q3 2025 (typically 1-2 hours);
- Preparation of year-end fundraising report for the Charity.
- Organisation of and attendance at the quarterly Fundraising Committee meeting (around 1-2 hours).
- Ad-hoc needs for discussions with CEO and Treasurer and to resolve grant application and fundraising matters.
