We are seeking a talented individual to join our Latin America & Caribbean Catastrophe Modelling team at Guy Carpenter. This role will be based in Miami, London, Mexico City, Lima or Bogotá. This is a hybrid role that has a requirement of working at least three days a week in the office.
We will count on you to:
- Organize client data, verify its reasonability, load it into catastrophe models, run simulations, and share outputs with senior colleagues to assess client risk exposure.
- Perform calculations to evaluate a range of risk exposures and predict outcomes supporting reinsurance transactions.
- Develop expertise in region- or peril-specific catastrophe risk management through research and experience.
- Review complex analyses completed by project team members and evaluate resulting data sets to calculate client risk exposure.
- Establish and maintain client relationships, resolving questions and challenges as they arise.
- Prepare summaries, presentations, and reports to communicate potential risks, loss results, and portfolio improvement recommendations to clients.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in a quantitative or natural sciences field such as applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, operations research, finance, economics, data science, computer science, or meteorology.
- 7+ years of experience in catastrophe risk modelling or related fields.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new software and analytical concepts.
- Strong academic record and fluent English; Spanish language skills strongly preferred.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion.
- Robust data management skills with the ability to manipulate, interpret, and extrapolate complex data.
- Superior communication and presentation skills to translate complex technical analysis into understandable terms for brokers and clients.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and financial aptitude.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach with strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain client and internal relationships.
- Solid computer skills including Microsoft SQL, Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and basic coding in any language.
What makes you stand out:
- Previous experience in a technical role at a reinsurance broker, market, or catastrophe model software vendor.
- Experience using Microsoft SQL, Python, Data Bricks, Alteryx, or Power BI.
- Scientific background in applied mathematics, statistics, meteorology, and/or seismology.
- Understanding of the insurance/reinsurance industry and product lines.
- Technical expertise working with Moody's RMS catastrophe models.
