Action on nature is the next frontier for sustainability, as the world has to move beyond net zero to a nature-positive future. Natcap is on a mission to accelerate the nature-positive transition by integrating nature intelligence into business decision-making. We support the world's leading companies to prioritise, measure and act on nature impacts, dependencies, risks and opportunities.

We’re seeking an exceptional Platform Engineer to bring depth, experience and momentum to our engineering team. You will work alongside colleagues in Product, Design, Delivery, Science, and Engineering to develop a top-tier product that is easy to use, performs well, and maintains high security. Your role will involve comprehensive engagement across our product and data platform. This role offers a unique opportunity to apply your technical skills to combat the nature crisis in a highly impactful position that will shape the nature platform we are building at Natcap.

You will support our software engineering team (smart, proactive, experienced and established yet always keen to learn) by working alongside them. The projects may be infrastructure driven (e.g. private networking, cost optimisation, scalability adjustments) or software-delivery driven (CI/CD, automation of data processing, communication between different stack elements to achieve desired functionality).

  • The design, implementation, and management of secure, resilient, and scalable cloud infrastructure.
  • Building and managing solutions on the AWS cloud platform, with knowledge of Google Cloud being advantageous.
  • Developing Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Configuration Management (CM) using tools such as Terraform and Ansible to enhance infrastructure deployments and security configurations.
  • Applying security best practices and compliance benchmarks to cloud infrastructure with IaC and CM tools, using AWS security services to standardise and improve the security posture of our cloud infrastructure.
  • Integrating the testing, deployment and management of IaC and CM with CI/CD pipelines, using tools such as GitHub Actions.
  • Configuring and managing deployments of applications on container platforms such as Kubernetes, Lambda, EKS, and ECS - with experience of Kubernetes/EKS preferred.
  • Leveraging AWS services like CloudWatch, Athena, Config and CloudTrail to monitor and help secure cloud infrastructure.
  • Supporting ongoing software development and data processing functions with pragmatic and efficient uses of the existing infrastructure and tools (tradeoffs between financial, performance and security optimisation being one of key aspects in making decisions).
  • Finding opportunities for improvement and innovation across the stack (employing AWS Bedrock, automation opportunities, serverless optimisation).

Our software and data stack is:

  • Python & JavaScript web application, deployed using CI/CD based on GitHub actions.
  • GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL database (RDS).
  • Data processing pipelines using Argo Workflows and Metaflow, with SQS-based events.

Deep experience in DevOps/Infrastructure or Platform Engineering. Equivalent to a Lead role in a start-up environment, or senior - staff level in a larger corporate. Has deep expertise in AWS. Is confident building Infrastructure as Code, including working with Terraform. Understands best practices in building secure & scalable infrastructure, and adopting best practices to smaller organisations (budget, security, developer experience). Is comfortable supporting our product & data stack (Python, JavaScript, GraphQL, APIs, PostgreSQL database). Ability to work in person in our Farringdon office at least 3 days per week.

The opportunity to build a company solving the world’s most urgent sustainability challenge. Competitive compensation + equity package. Wellness and lifestyle benefits package.
