We are currently seeking an experienced Senior IT Engineer (Cybersecurity).
Job Type: Full Time/Permanent
Competitive Salary: £40,000 to £45,000 per annum - dependent on experience

As a Senior IT Engineer with a strong emphasis on Cybersecurity, you will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the organisation's IT infrastructure with a focus on securing networks, systems, and data. You will troubleshoot complex technical issues, implement security measures, and respond to security incidents to ensure the company’s IT systems remain secure, compliant, and resilient. You will work closely with the Group IT support Engineers, provide expert guidance on complex IT and security issues, and be a key player in ensuring the organisation's overall cybersecurity posture remains strong. You will also be involved in proactive security measures, incident response, and disaster recovery planning. This role is office-based at our Coventry site, with travel to other UK sites as required, sometimes at short notice. Occasional on-call support for urgent issues is also expected. This position is crucial for ensuring the robustness, efficiency, and security of the organisation’s IT and cybersecurity systems, protecting sensitive data and fostering a security-conscious culture.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert-level support for escalated IT issues from first-line Engineers, ensuring timely resolution.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues, especially security vulnerabilities or breaches.
- Collaborate with teams to resolve performance issues and ensure business continuity.
- Monitor and maintain security infrastructure, including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Apply patches and updates to mitigate security threats.
- Lead response efforts in cyber-attacks or security breaches, including containment and remediation.
- Perform root cause analysis and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate on incident handling, reporting, and documentation.
- Enforce security policies in line with industry standards and regulations (GDPR, ISO, Cyber Essentials+, NIST 800-171).
- Assist with audits and compliance reporting.
- Manage and configure network devices with a focus on security.
- Design and implement secure system architectures and disaster recovery plans.
- Maintain network security protocols to prevent unauthorized access.
- Support new IT infrastructure deployments, including cloud security.
- Advise on best practices for IT security.
- Lead security projects ensuring compliance with frameworks and standards.
- Document vulnerabilities, incidents, and resolutions.
- Maintain records of IT systems, policies, and protocols.
- Prepare management reports on IT and security status.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 5 years in IT support, with 2+ years in a senior cybersecurity role.
- Hands-on experience with security tools such as firewalls, endpoint protection, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and SIEM platforms.
- Deep knowledge of network security, encryption, authentication, and secure configurations including CUI/CDI.
- Advanced understanding of IT infrastructure, including servers, storage, and virtualization.
- Familiarity with cloud security (Azure, AWS, etc.).
- Knowledge of compliance frameworks like PCI DSS, HIPAA, SOC 2.
- Proficiency with Windows, Linux, macOS, and network protocols.
- Understanding threat intelligence platforms and attack mitigation techniques.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Certifications: CISSP, CEH, Security+, CISM, or similar; Cisco CCNP Security or equivalent.
- Experience managing security projects and large-scale security transformations.
