Summary of role
The CNC Turner programmer is responsible for programming, setting up, operating, and maintaining computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines to produce precision components. This role requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret engineering drawings to produce accurate and high-quality machined parts.
Key Responsibilities
- Machine Setup and Operation: Set up CNC turning machines, including loading raw materials and tooling.
- Operate machines to produce parts according to engineering specifications.
- Make adjustments to programs as necessary to ensure precision and accuracy.
- Conduct in-process inspections to verify that parts meet quality standards.
- Use precision measuring instruments to check dimensions and tolerances.
- Monitor tool wear and change cutting tools as needed to maintain quality and efficiency.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including program changes, tool adjustments, and inspection results.
- Provide input for continuous improvement of machining processes.
- Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards.
- Work closely with other members of the manufacturing team to optimize production processes.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and engineers regarding production issues.
- Take responsibility for your own and all staff safety & make sure where you work is safe and hazard free.
- Ensure accident and near miss forms are completed within 24 hours and complete investigations for all lost time incidents.
- Ensure risk assessments are completed and implement control measures where necessary.
- Apply and enforce Health & Safety, Quality and Environmental regulations and processes on a day to day basis.
- Provide a positive health and safety attitude.
- Work with Management to identify hazards and reduce risk as much as possible in the workplaces.
Role Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training in CNC machining is preferred.
- 4 years of experience in CNC turning (or a related field).
- Proficient in CNC programming and operation; ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
- High level of precision and accuracy in work.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machining processes.
- Collaborative approach with good communication skills.
