Job Overview:

As a Marine Claims Technician at an international Lloyd\’s broker, you will play a key role in supporting the efficient management and processing of marine claims, from initial notification through to settlement. You will work closely with brokers, underwriters, and clients to ensure claims are handled in a timely and compliant manner, adhering to both internal policies and industry regulations. This role provides a great opportunity to develop expertise in marine insurance, claims negotiation, and client relationship management in a dynamic global environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Claims Management

  • Receive, assess, and register incoming marine claims for a wide range of marine policies, including cargo, hull, liability, and marine war risks.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the prompt resolution of claims, ensuring all parties (clients, insurers, adjusters) are updated regularly on the status of claims.
  • Liaise with clients, brokers, and insurers to collect necessary documentation, such as survey reports, loss adjuster reports, and proof of loss.
  • Monitor and ensure timely settlement of claims, working closely with all stakeholders to resolve any outstanding issues.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records for each claim file, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal procedures.
  • Verify policy terms and conditions, ensuring claims are within the scope of coverage.
  • Draft and issue claims-related correspondence, including settlement offers and dispute resolution communications.

Financial & Payment Processing:

  • Assist in calculating claim settlements, including assessing the appropriate payout and coordinating payments with insurers and reinsurers.
  • Track and manage outstanding claims payments, ensuring adherence to financial controls and internal audit requirements.

Claims Reporting & Analysis:

  • Assist in preparing regular claims reports for internal teams, underwriters, and clients.
  • Support the identification of trends or patterns in claims, assisting senior claims handlers in preparing insights for risk management or underwriting departments.

Client & Stakeholder Interaction:

  • Provide support to brokers, clients, and insurers, addressing any queries and ensuring clear communication throughout the claims process.
  • Act as the point of contact for clients during the claims process, providing updates and answering questions on the status and next steps.

Dispute Resolution & Loss Recovery:

  • Assist in managing disputes and liaise with legal teams and loss adjusters where necessary.
  • Support efforts to recover losses from third parties, including subrogation activities.

Key Requirements:

Experience

  • 2+ years’ experience in marine claims or a similar role in the insurance industry, ideally with exposure to Lloyd\’s market processes.
  • A solid understanding of marine insurance products, policies, and claims handling procedures.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to assess and process complex claims.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for liaising with clients, brokers, insurers, and adjusters.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in claims management systems and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of Lloyd’s market systems (ECF/CLASS) and processes is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • Insurance qualifications (e.g. CII) or similar certifications are desirable but not essential.
