The role will be to take ownership of a diverse portfolio of international specialty risks, while building strong broker relationships and playing a key role in the growth of the team and business.
As a Specialty Treaty Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing, pricing and managing risks across your portfolio. You will analyse underwriting, claims, actuarial and market data to make informed and commercially sound underwriting decisions.
A key part of the position will involve developing and maintaining strong relationships with brokers and other key stakeholders, helping to grow your broker network and identify new business opportunities.
- Analyse the nature and extent of risk, using actuarial data, claims history, and external risk factors to inform decision-making.
- Make underwriting decisions, including accepting, declining, or referring risks in line with company guidelines and risk appetite.
- Define and negotiate policy terms, conditions, coverage limits, and premiums to ensure appropriate risk pricing and profitability.
- Conduct regular reviews of existing policies at renewal, reassessing risk exposure and adjusting terms and pricing as necessary.
- Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal underwriting standards.
Minimum of 8 years’ experience within Insurance.
Prior experience dealing with Specialty Treaty Reinsurance risks – advantageous.
Strong understanding of underwriting practices, product and risk assessment methodologies.
Proficiency in interpreting and applying actuarial models, statistical data and underwriting tools to assess and price risk accurately.
High level of attention to detail, ensuring accuracy in risk evaluation, documentation and policy wording.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data.
Detailed knowledge of your market and relevant underwriting practices, with the ability to apply market insight, technical information and risk data to underwriting decisions.
