A well-established and growing insurance brokerage is seeking an experienced Commercial Claims Handler to join its expanding claims team. This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate with a strong broking background who enjoys managing claims from notification through to settlement, while delivering a high standard of service to clients and insurers.
The role will primarily focus on the handling of fleet claims, which currently form a significant part of the day-to-day claims activity. However, the successful candidate will ideally have exposure to a wider range of commercial claims including Employers’ Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), and Contractors All Risks (CAR).
This position will develop over time, and the business is looking for someone who can also act as a technical support and sounding board for junior team members as the team continues to grow.
Key Responsibilities- Managing a caseload of commercial insurance claims from first notification through to settlement
- Handling a high volume of fleet claims, ensuring prompt and accurate progression
- Liaising with clients, insurers, loss adjusters, solicitors, and other third parties to ensure efficient claims outcomes
- Ensuring claims are managed in line with policy terms, insurer requirements, and FCA regulations
- Providing clear and confident advice to clients throughout the lifecycle of the claim
- Reviewing documentation, gathering evidence, and supporting the negotiation of fair settlements
- Identifying potential coverage issues, reserving considerations, and escalation requirements
- Maintaining accurate claims records and diary management to ensure deadlines are met
- Supporting junior members of the team with technical guidance and best practice processes
- Assisting with continuous improvement of internal claims processes and procedures
- 2–3 years’ experience handling commercial claims within an insurance broking environment
- Strong working knowledge of fleet claims handling is highly desirable
- Exposure to EL / PL / CAR claims would be advantageous
- Confident communicator with strong relationship management skills
- Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage a busy caseload effectively
- Strong technical understanding of claims handling procedures and insurer processes
- Ability to work independently while also contributing to a team environment
- A proactive mindset and willingness to support and mentor junior colleagues
- Progress towards, or completion of, CII qualifications (or willingness to work towards them)
- Experience handling more complex or disputed claims
- Experience dealing directly with insurers and loss adjusters at a technical level
