Are you an experienced marine professional ready to take on a key role in a live harbour environment? Do you enjoy balancing operational delivery, safety, and stakeholder management? Do you want to be part of the team working on a nationally significant infrastructure project? We’re looking for a Deputy Harbour Master to join NASH Maritime, supporting Harbour Authority operations for the Sizewell C project, based at our client’s office in Suffolk. This is a 12-month contract, with the possibility of further extension.
In this hands-on role, you’ll support the Harbour Master in managing day-to-day marine activity, helping ensure safe, compliant and efficient operations across a busy and evolving construction environment. You’ll work closely with contractors, regulators and project teams, acting as a key point of coordination and decision-making on navigation safety.
Alongside operational delivery, you’ll play an important role in maintaining an effective marine safety management system compliant with the Ports & Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC), supporting risk management, and ensuring activities align with statutory requirements and best practice.
What you’ll bring:
- Marine operational experience preferably at Assistant Harbour Master or equivalent level
- Demonstrable track record of managing navigation safety in harbour or port environments
- Knowledge and understanding of the Ports & Marine Facilities Safety Code (PMSC)
- A developed understanding of relevant occupational health, marine safety and environment obligations and systems
- Ability to interact and negotiate with a wide variety of stakeholders with excellent communication and decision-making skills
- A solution driven approach and proven marine management skills
- Strong MS Office / IT capability / comfortable with bespoke IT systems
- Diploma for Harbour Masters (Lloyds Maritime Academy or similar)
- UK Harbour Master Certificate (or willingness to work towards gaining this)
- Oil Spill Response 4P qualification
- Safety leadership qualification (e.g. IOSH Managing Safely)
- Practical Piloting experience
This is a great opportunity to take on a visible, high-impact role within a major UK project — working at the centre of marine operations where safety, judgement and collaboration are key. You’ll be based at Sizewell C Offices at Orwell Logistics Park in Ipswich, working closely with both NASH Maritime and Sizewell C teams — gaining experience across operations, risk, safety, and stakeholder management in a dynamic environment.
A renewal of the initial 12 month contract term is possible from June 2027, pending successful delivery of services to the Client. Join us and help shape a sustainable, accident-free maritime future. You will be offered the chance to work on a variety of projects; many of our employees have worked on projects that have been of personal interest to them. We match this with a commitment to continuous development and learning to support your career. We also offer benefits to look after you, from private medical insurance for all employees, access to mental health first aiders and comprehensive income protection if you cannot work. We also offer superb flexible working options, balancing work with your life.
Next steps: We are focused on creating a diverse and inclusive team. If you can’t tick every box on our job description, then we are still keen to hear from you and are open to supporting your development.
