This is an excellent opportunity for a Chartered Engineer to take ownership of challenging projects, lead client relationships, and play a key role in the development of both our people and business.
The Role
Anticipated to have approximately 8 to 10 years’ of relevant experience with a proven track record of delivering complex projects.
A Senior Engineer leads the design, analysis, and delivery of complex building projects, taking responsibility for technical quality, commercial performance, and mentoring. They manage project teams, mentor junior engineers, and liaise with clients, architects, and contractors from concept to completion. This role demands extensive experience, technical expertise in all structural materials, and proficiency in modelling software.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently lead and deliver multiple complex engineering projects of varying scale.
- Manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Guide, mentor, and review the work of junior engineers and technicians.
- Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients, architects, and contractors.
- Attend design team and site meetings to monitor construction progress, resolve technical issues autonomously and decisively, and undertake inspections on new and existing structures.
- Ensure all work complies with health and safety guidelines, Eurocodes, British Standards, and Building Safety Acts.
- Engage in business development activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Relevant engineering degree or equivalent.
- Ability to solve complex engineering challenges and provide practical, compliant solutions.
- Strong leadership, organisation, and communication skills for team management and client interaction.
- Professional qualification such as a Chartered member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is generally expected.
- Strong technical design ability and project leadership skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for producing independent reports and liaising with stakeholders.
- Excellent organisation and decision-making skills.
Key Performance Indicators
- Ability to communicate internally and externally.
- Timesheets, Project Owner (PO) reports, invoicing, and fee forecasting all completed timeously.
- Timely and profitable project delivery.
- Effective team and project management.
- Demonstration of mentoring capability and business development contributions.
- Maintains a strong external professional profile.
- Experienced in producing complex building appraisal reports.
- Consistently demonstrates behaviours aligned with the company ethos.
- Shows accountability and professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to step into higher-level responsibilities when required.
