About Napo
At Napo, we are not just a pet insurance company - we are pet parents who care deeply about helping others give their furry friends the happiest and healthiest lives possible. We are on a mission to redefine pet insurance by combining comprehensive cover with smart, proactive pet care - all made possible through powerful technology.
Our engineering team plays a central role in shaping the Napo experience. Whether it is building intuitive tools for our customers, powering the behind-the-scenes systems that keep everything running smoothly, or exploring the potential of AI to provide exceptional support for our customers - we take pride in building with purpose.
This role reports directly to our Head of Engineering and works closely with product, design, customer operations, and data teams.
Why Join Us?
This is a great opportunity to join a collaborative, mission-led team where engineers are trusted to take ownership and solve meaningful problems. You will work on projects that directly improve the lives of pets and their people - from customer-facing features to smart internal tools - all in a supportive, low-ego environment. If you are ready to take ownership, build with purpose, and see the impact of your work every day - we would love to hear from you.
The Role
We are looking for a mid-level Software Engineer to join our team and help us shape the future of pet care. You will help create great customer experiences, build internal tools to power the business, and contribute to systems that scale with our growth. This is a full-stack role, where you will be involved using some of the most interesting technologies currently in the market. We are looking for somebody who is comfortable working in all areas of our technology stack.
Our monorepo codebases are built using either TypeScript or Python, using FastAPI respectively and are deployed through Vercel and GCP. We abstract when we need to and create internal packages where it makes sense. We are deeply invested in building AI applications that allow Napo to scale into the future and you will get the chance to work in this new and exciting space. Engineers at Napo have high autonomy and accountability. We are product engineers and find solutions collaboratively and effectively. We move quickly, ship straight to production (with many guardrails) to deliver great experiences for our customers.
What You Will Be Doing
Deliver end-to-end features that improve the experiences of our customers or internal teams. This will cover broad areas, from frontend UI to backend logic, and external and internal AI applications. Lead projects, working with high autonomy and accountability. Spot opportunities to improve performance, reliability, or developer experience, and follow through on them. Contribute to a strong engineering culture through collaboration, documentation, and thoughtful code reviews. Support the health of our systems by identifying and addressing technical debt or complexity.
What We Are Looking For
Skills & Experience
Proven commercial experience where you have worked in a full-stack environment. You are comfortable building UIs, APIs, and working with cloud/serverless infrastructure. Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and experience building with a framework like Backend experience in Python where you have built scalable applications. Commercial experience building AI applications. A passion for using technology to create innovative solutions for customers. You understand the trade-offs of fast iteration and long-term maintainability.
How You Work
You are hands-on and take ownership. You drive projects to completion, big or small. You collaborate well with others and communicate clearly and regularly. You look beyond your own tasks, helping teammates and improving the way we build. You are curious and open to feedback.
What We Offer
Everyone is an owner at Napo; you will receive stock options on day 1. Hybrid work environment (for now, we love to have people in the office two days per week - we have a friendly office in central London). Generous leave policy (25 days annual holidays +
