We are currently looking for a Family Support Bank Therapist/Counsellor to join our team.
As part of the hospice’s Family Support Team, you will provide individual counselling sessions to adults and young people in complex situations. You must have a recognised counselling or psychotherapy qualification and membership with a professional body such as BACP, UKCP or similar, and at least two years of experience working with adults and young people experiencing loss and bereavement. A good knowledge of the impact of disability and life-limiting diagnosis on a family is desirable. Newly qualified candidates are not eligible for interview at this time.
The Family Support team includes Counsellors, Play Therapy and Creative Arts and Counselling, Art Therapy, Social Work, Family Support Work and Chaplaincy. You will provide expert counselling services tailored to the individual’s needs. You may also have the opportunity to run therapeutic groups for parents and young people. All counselling takes place at the hospice (face to face), online or by telephone.
Key Responsibilities- Understand and respond to the needs of children, young adults and families in times of uncertainty and crisis.
- Hold a complex caseload and deliver a planned program of therapeutic intervention.
- Provide group and direct work with children as well as young people.
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and promote effective communication regarding psycho-social information within the care team.
- Contribute to planning and delivery of annual remembering events as required.
- Promote safeguarding and welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.
- Maintain records in accordance with organisational policy.
- Provide statistics/evaluations on activities undertaken.
- Maintain confidentiality of each child, young adult and family at all times.
- Maintain own professional development and training opportunities, including personal supervision as agreed with line manager.
- Demonstrate excellent communication, adaptability, compassion and self-motivation, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Expected to work with a minimum of 2-3 clients per week.
Services are provided face to face, online and by phone; you will need to be available at the hospice for counselling work.

Hourly rate: £17.85 per hour
Holiday Pay: 12.07% of hours worked
Employment Status: Zero-hours contract. No guaranteed minimum hours. Work offered as needed. You can accept or decline work based on your availability.
