Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), University of the Arts Singapore, an esteemed arts institution with a global reputation seeks an administratively strong Technical Officer (1-year contract) at our School of 3D Design (S3DD). The School of 3D Design is about the design of objects, environments, and spaces within personal and public domains. Our central focus is on improving the quality of things we use and the spaces we live in, through creative design. Each programme in our school fosters design and creative thinking while sharpening technical capabilities. Our students will undergo an enriching and intensive journey of design education, developing key skills and learning about technologies, trends, and their impact on design.

Main Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Technical Officer (3D Workshop) is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and safe use of the School’s 3D Workshop facilities.
  • The role supports teaching and learning activities through technical supervision, student guidance, workshop inductions, and administrative coordination.
  • In this hands-on technical role within the School of 3D Design, you will support a practice-led, industry-focused learning environment by enabling students to develop strong competencies in fabrication and prototyping.
  • You will provide technical guidance on project development, including scaled and full-scale prototypes, while assisting lecturers in preparing materials, setting up equipment, and delivering technical demonstrations.
  • Additionally, you will conduct workshop and machine induction sessions to ensure users are trained in safe practices and proper use of equipment.
  • You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations and management of workshop facilities, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and maintaining a clean, organised, and safe environment.
  • This includes overseeing the maintenance and functionality of machinery and equipment, managing inventory and consumables, and monitoring equipment usage.
  • You will also support student projects and research activities, assist in exhibition preparations, and serve as the key point of contact for workshop safety and compliance, while undertaking administrative and other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean or School Management.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • You should possess a Diploma qualification in a related discipline with relevant working experience in a workshop environment.
  • In addition, you must be certified workshop-trained and demonstrate strong technical skills in making and fabrication methods, as well as material knowledge related to 3-Dimensional practices, with expertise in materials used in art and design creation.
  • To excel in this role, you should also have strong software skills, particularly proficiency in Rhinoceros, ZBrush and Blender. Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator is an added advantage.
  • A team player with strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including academics, educators, artists, and cultural leaders, is a pre-requisite.
