The School of Fine Art (SFA) seeks a versatile and forward-thinking Senior Lecturer / Programme Lead to oversee the management and pedagogical direction of the Diploma in Fine Art. This appointment is a critical hire to advance the School’s positioning within the evolving landscape of contemporary art practices. The Programme Leader must possess extensive technical and theoretical knowledge across a broad spectrum of art mediums, ranging from drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, sculpture to mediums such as sound art and performance art. A key expectation is the ability to bridge contemporary art practices with AI informed creative practices, ensuring the curriculum remains at the forefront of an evolving art ecosystem. This position requires a proactive leader who can define directions for the programme, mobilise resources, and deliver outcomes that contribute to the School’s growth and reputation.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Programme Management & Leadership
    • Provide executive oversight and strategic direction for the Diploma in Fine Art, ensuring rigorous delivery and academic excellence.
    • Perform administrative duties related to the daily programme management of the diploma programme.
    • Provide empathetic pastoral care and academic mentorship to students to support learner well-being and academic persistence.
  • Teaching & Curriculum Excellence
    • Undertake 14 – 18 contact hours of teaching per week, providing expert instruction across various studio disciplines and emerging media.
    • Lead the design and implementation of curriculum that integrates knowledge of AI literacy, ethics and AI tools/platforms into fine art modules.
    • Govern assessment frameworks to ensure alignment with institutional quality assurance and higher education regulatory standards.
    • Lead curriculum enhancement to ensure relevance to evolving art ecosystems, incorporating AI tools and workflows where appropriate.
  • Contemporary Art Research & Practice
    • Engage in high-impact practice-based research, focusing on AI in creative practice.
    • Drive high-impact creative outputs including exhibitions, screenings, and public showcases that elevate the School’s research culture and regional standing.
    • Translate active studio research into innovative pedagogical frameworks.
  • Industry Engagement & Global Visibility
    • Establish and sustain meaningful academic and industry partnerships within the contemporary art sector.
    • Initiate and support strategic activities such as exhibitions, artist talks, and public showcases that highlight innovative student work.
    • Position the programme within relevant regional networks to enhance institutional visibility and engagement.
