Nando’s has been in the UK and Ireland since 1992, and we’ve grown from a single takeaway store in Ealing, London to over 500 restaurants across all locations. Originally started in Johannesburg, South Africa, we pride ourselves on creating memorable experiences for everyone involved in Nando’s: from our employees, communities, founders, and suppliers — but most importantly, our customers.
We have recently been growing our digital capabilities to ensure the Nando’s experience remains relevant to modern-day customers. You will be joining a tech team that has grown in the past few years and is determined to enable change within the restaurant industry by bringing innovative thinking and the latest technology tools and practices to solve some of its most complex problems.
We are seeking a Contract Senior QA Engineer to join our Customer Web Experience team. Our remit is to bring the Nando’s brand to life with a brilliant web presence. We look after the nandos.co.uk (and Ireland) web presence. The role will support the full replatform to a modern stack and new CMS (Storyblok). It’s an exciting time to join if you’re interested in building beautiful, accessible, and web-performant customer experiences.
Our team owns the customer Online Ordering Web Experience — whether it’s delivery, click‑and‑collect, or order‑at‑table — and we’re pushing it to be genuinely world‑leading.
Responsibilities- Own the QA vision for our website and online-ordering products – design the automation strategy, define the standards, implement the vision and evangelise best practice.
- Consider post-deployment monitoring as a core area of the ongoing quality strategy.
- Build a maintainable automated test framework (Playwright) with longevity in mind – clean code, clear docs, low flake rate, sensible trade-offs.
- Blend automation with exploratory/manual QA during the re-platform project, ensuring speed doesn’t outweigh quality.
- Investigate and share smart, AI-assisted approaches to end-to-end testing where they add genuine value (e.g. self-healing tests, AI-driven test-data generation).
- Champion accessibility as “Everyone is Welcome” – bake automated checks and targeted manual audits into the pipeline, and own end-to-end compliance with the EU Accessibility Act.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers and product in an agile squad – planning test coverage early, pairing on tricky scenarios and championing accessibility and performance.
- Report clear, actionable insights on quality metrics, release readiness and production issues.
- Experience testing modern web applications built with React, Next.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, Vercel.
- Proven experience leading QA automation for complex web products, writing robust Playwright tests in TypeScript.
- Hands-on knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions preferred), plus a solid grasp of GCP or another major cloud platform.
- Comfort switching between automated and manual testing – you know when to automate and when to explore.
- Strong foundations in testing types: functional UI/API, integration, performance, accessibility, and security.
- Exposure to visual-regression tooling integrated into the pipeline.
- Experience working with observability tools (e.g., monitoring logs, distributed tracing, and alerting mechanisms).
- A habit of leaving things better than you found them – tidy frameworks, readable docs, repeatable processes.
- Experience with web migrations or large-scale CMS migrations.
- Opinions on how Gen-AI can (and can’t) speed up quality workflows.
- Collaborative, constructive and kind – feedback and code reviews come with empathy.
- Pragmatic: you balance “perfect test pyramid” theory with the realities of moving quickly and long-term maintainability.
- Comfortable talking to engineers, designers and stakeholders alike, translating defects into plain English and next steps.
At Nando’s, everyone is welcome. Inspired by our Southern African heritage, we know and value the richness that diversity brings to Nando’s.
