What we’re looking for: We’re looking for a Senior Front End Engineer to join our passionate, lean, agile, fast‑growing and evolving technology team on a permanent basis. You’ll be an experienced frontend engineer who enjoys solving complex user experience challenges, building scalable web applications and helping those around you become better engineers. You’ll be comfortable owning large frontend initiatives from design through to production, influencing technical direction and driving engineering excellence across multiple teams. You’ll remain hands‑on while acting as a trusted technical leader within the team.

The Role: As a Senior Front End Engineer, you’ll design, build, deploy and operate modern, high‑quality web applications that power the Nando’s digital experience across the USA. You’ll partner closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, UX Designers and fellow engineers to create fast, accessible and engaging customer experiences while helping shape the frontend architecture across our digital platform. You’ll be trusted to independently lead complex frontend initiatives, mentor engineers across the team and champion engineering best practices.

You’ll also:

  • Lead frontend technical discovery and solution design for complex initiatives.
  • Build reusable, scalable and accessible component libraries.
  • Translate UX designs into responsive, high‑quality user interfaces.
  • Drive engineering quality through code reviews, testing strategies and frontend standards.
  • Coach and mentor engineers through pairing, technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
  • Own frontend applications throughout their lifecycle using a “You build it, you run it” mindset.
  • Improve performance, accessibility, security and developer experience across applications.
  • Contribute to frontend architecture and engineering strategy alongside Technical Leads and Principal Engineers.
  • Champion the effective use of AI‑assisted engineering tools to improve delivery while maintaining engineering quality.
  • Build comprehensive automated testing and continuously improve test coverage.
  • Optimize application performance, responsiveness and Core Web Vitals.
  • Own frontend services in production, including monitoring, observability and continuous improvement.
  • Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines for frontend applications.
  • Support incident response, root cause analysis and ongoing service improvements.
  • Champion accessibility (WCAG), usability and responsive design best practices.
  • Continuously explore emerging technologies, including AI‑assisted software development, to improve engineering effectiveness.

About the USA Tech Team: Our team’s objective is to bring the same high‑quality digital experience that customers enjoy in the UK and Ireland to customers across the USA. To achieve this, we build and evolve the services powering our customer journeys across Locate, Menu, Payments, Orders, Loyalty, Identity, Web & Mobile Applications. As a Senior Front End Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and delivering the customer‑facing experiences across these domains. You’ll work closely with backend engineers, Product Managers and Designers to build intuitive, responsive and accessible applications that delight customers while remaining scalable, resilient and easy to evolve. You’ll collaborate with other engineering teams across Customer Digital, helping align frontend standards, improve shared libraries and continually enhance our engineering ecosystem.

Skills Required – Essential:

  • Significant commercial experience building large‑scale frontend applications.
  • Expert proficiency with TypeScript, React and modern JavaScript.
  • Strong experience with React ecosystem tools such as React Query, Redux Toolkit or equivalent state management solutions.
  • Deep understanding of HTML5, CSS3 and responsive web design.
  • Strong knowledge of frontend architecture, component‑based design and scalable application patterns.
  • Experience integrating RESTful APIs and backend services.
  • Experience building performant, accessible and responsive user interfaces.
  • Strong experience with automated frontend testing (Jest, React Testing Library, Playwright or Cypress).
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud‑hosted frontend deployments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction.
  • Strong understanding of Agile software delivery.
  • Experience using AI effectively as part of the software development lifecycle.
