We are seeking an experienced and impactful Interim Head of English & Maths to join a Further Education college from 10th August 2026 through to 23rd October 2026. This is a key leadership appointment requiring a proven FE specialist who can quickly establish credibility, lead at pace, and drive measurable improvement across English and maths provision.
Essential Experience:
- Senior leadership experience within Further Education, such as Head of Department, Curriculum Manager, Director of English & Maths, or equivalent
- Strong leadership of GCSE and Functional Skills English and/or maths provision
- Proven track record of improving achievement, retention, attendance, and learner progress
- Experience managing large curriculum teams and driving rapid improvement
- Strong understanding of FE funding, curriculum, and accountability frameworks
- Experience using performance data to identify risks and implement interventions
- Quality assurance and improvement experience including lesson observations, learning walks, SARs, and standardisation
- Curriculum planning, staffing, timetabling, and budget/resource management experience
- Staff performance management, coaching, and CPD leadership
- Experience improving learner engagement and attendance strategies
- Ability to work effectively within an interim leadership capacity and deliver impact quickly
- Familiarity with OCR and Eduqas awarding bodies
- Relevant teaching qualification and degree required; leadership qualification desirable

You will be a confident FE leader with the ability to stabilise, motivate, and improve provision within a short-term assignment. Strong stakeholder management, organisational skills, and resilience under pressure are essential.
