Kerensa Ward is a 25‑bed acute eldercare ward specialising in care for patients with dementia, cognitive impairment and complex needs. We pride ourselves on compassionate, patient‑centred care and are looking for a Deputy Ward Leader to work with a dedicated team striving for outstanding patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Promote patient‑centred care and establish good relationships with patients, families and carers.
  • Communicate effectively at all levels within the multi‑disciplinary team.
  • Take charge of the unit clinically and act as a role model and expert practitioner.
  • Support patients living with dementia and manage patient flow within the department.
  • Actively seek the views of patients and carers when evaluating care provision.
  • Constantly promote the importance of the patient experience within the ward.
  • Embed working practices that maintain patient privacy and dignity.
  • Demonstrate ongoing professional development and keep up to date with national and local developments in nursing and NHS policy and practice.
  • Maintain clinical competence in a specialist field and comply with NMC standards.
  • Work flexibly throughout the hospital when required.
  • Work in partnership with the multi‑disciplinary team, supporting departmental development and change.
  • Support staff development to maximise potential and encourage learning.
  • Possess effective time management and personal organisation skills.
  • Manage allocated resources effectively; maintain correct skill mix of staff, bed management, utilisation of time, pharmacy stocks, equipment and maintenance/repairs.
  • Lead an agreed area of unit management (e.g., infection control, tissue viability, teaching).

Qualifications

  • Current NMC/AHP registration.
  • Hold, or be working towards, a degree.

Desirable

  • University qualification in specialty.
  • Teaching, assessment, mentoring qualification.

Experience

  • Relevant nursing/AHP experience within specialty.
  • Audit or research experience.
  • Teaching and education experience.
