Applications are invited for this exciting opportunity to join the anaesthetic team of 64 Consultants and 8 SAS doctors at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The department is a dynamic, forward‐thinking and innovative department covering a wide range of specialties. We deliver anaesthesia across four sites – the Royal Cornwall Hospital, St Michael's Hospital, West Cornwall Hospital and St Austell Surgical Hub. We are looking for a General Anaesthesia Consultant with an interest in Paediatrics.
Main duties of the job
- To establish Anaesthesia as integral to the peri‐operative outcomes of paediatric surgery.
- Maintain the highest clinical standards in the management of Anaesthesia.
- Share responsibility for the day‐to‐day management of the Anaesthetic department.
- Teach and train anaesthetists in training, resident doctors and medical students where applicable.
- Ensure active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
- Participate in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit.
- Participate in quality improvement, data analysis and information presentation, and service development, as appropriate.
- Attend care group and directorate business, operational and governance meetings as appropriate.
- Fulfil duties of weekly timetable including any out‐of‐hours responsibilities.
- Deliver pre‐operative assessment sessions.

Person Specification
Essential
- GMC registration.
- GMC Specialist Register or within six months of obtaining CCT (or equivalent) in Anaesthetics at time of interview.
- FRCA or equivalent.
- Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a broad range of problems in Anaesthesia.
- Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients.
- Pediatric Anaesthesia at Advanced Level, e.g. a minimum of 6 months Stage 3 Special Interest Area (SIA) in Paediatric Anaesthesia.
- Experience in Clinical Audit and Clinical Governance.
- Emergency CEPOD and Trauma experience.
- Ultrasound‐guided venous access and Regional Anaesthesia skills.
Desirable
- APLS.
- Management of Multidisciplinary Teams.
- Specialist expertise in Paediatric Transfer Medicine, Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine, Professional Management and Leadership.
