We are currently seeking enthusiastic Maternity Healthcare Support Workers to join our team at Princess Alexandra Wing, Royal Cornwall Hospital. The successful applicants will be responsible for supporting the midwifery team in delivering high standards of care to women and their babies.

The post-holder will contribute to the optimum delivery of care to women and babies by assisting all clinical staff and delivering care in a manner sensitive to the individual woman's needs and wishes, acknowledging and respecting their rights and beliefs at all times.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist and support midwifery staff with clinical duties.
  • Establish rapport with mothers and their families and be aware of the individual woman's needs, ensuring these are communicated to the midwife.
  • Assist women to maintain their personal hygiene and appearance following delivery, demonstrating an awareness of their clinical condition and the individual's right to privacy and personal preference.
  • Make written records on appropriate charts of any changes in skin appearance, bodily functions, and report the same to the Registered Midwife responsible for the patient.
  • Assist women with eating and drinking, ensuring they receive appropriate diet and fluids as indicated by their physical condition and personal/cultural preferences.
  • Complete intake records in a timely and accurate manner, and report any changes/difficulties to the Registered Midwife responsible for the patient.
  • Work as a team member.
  • Perform clerical duties as designated by the Ward Manager.

The posts require the successful applicant to be able to work flexibly and be fully rotational within all areas of the maternity department. You will be given opportunities to develop the skills required for this interesting and varied role.
