Applications are invited for a new substantive consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal Cornwall Hospital. The post attracts 10PAs. This expansion is an exciting opportunity to join our dynamic team delivering excellent care in a beautiful area of the country. The successful applicant will join a close knit, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team and will balance great work with the unique benefits of the diverse coastal lifestyle in Cornwall. A formal job plan will be agreed between the successful candidate and the Clinical Director and consultant colleagues on behalf of the Medical Director based on department needs and the strengths/interests of the appointee.

Main duties of the job

  • Full involvement in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery services in Cornwall in conjunction with primary care dental services and the Peninsula Dental School.
  • Share responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery workload with colleagues.
  • Assist with meeting Key Performance Indicators for the Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Person Specification

Essential

  • GDC/GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • GMC Specialist Register for or within six months of obtaining CCT/European Community Rights at time of interview
  • Intercollegiate Fellowship Exam in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or equivalent

Desirable

  • Completion of a relevant surgical fellowship
  • Educational supervisor training
  • ATLS certificate

Experience

  • Ability to manage patients with complex facial trauma
  • Ability to manage patients with oral cancer
  • Experience in surgical management of temporomandibular joint pathology
  • Broad experience of head and neck skin cancer surgery including metastatic disease
  • Effective participation in clinical audit
  • Teaching experience and post graduate/undergraduate teaching
  • Research relevant to the specialty with publications in refereed journals

Desirable

  • Experience in performing sentinel lymph node biopsy

Compliance Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks as required. Certificate of Sponsorship for Skilled Worker visa applications. UK registration with current professional status.
