About the Role
Homelessness Service Teams provide short-term emergency accommodation and support when preventing homelessness is not possible. The aim is to help people move into appropriate long-term accommodation as quickly as possible.
As a Housing Support Worker, you will help clients transition from temporary or supported accommodation into suitable housing options, including:
- Private rented accommodation
- Social housing
- Supported housing
- Other appropriate long-term housing solutions
You will also help ensure that clients have the right ongoing support in place to maintain their tenancies successfully.
Key Responsibilities
- Support vulnerable individuals and families experiencing homelessness or housing difficulties.
- Help clients move from temporary accommodation into suitable permanent housing.
- Assess individual needs and identify appropriate housing and support options.
- Work with housing providers, social services, health professionals and other organisations.
- Provide practical and emotional support to clients.
- Help clients understand and access welfare benefits and other available services.
- Support people experiencing mental or physical health challenges, substance misuse, domestic abuse and financial difficulties.
- Build positive and professional relationships with clients.
- Maintain accurate records and provide appropriate reports.
- Promote independence and help clients develop the skills needed to maintain stable accommodation.
- Safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults in accordance with relevant policies.

The successful candidate should have:
- Experience working with vulnerable individuals, families or people experiencing homelessness.
- Knowledge of the challenges associated with homelessness and housing insecurity.
- Understanding of welfare benefits and housing-related services.
- Experience working collaboratively with multiple agencies and organisations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

A DBS check may be required before appointment where the role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
