PLEASE NOTE: This role involves significant manual handling and heavy lifting and requires a physically fit individual comfortable working in a busy yard environment. Our client is recruiting for a Yard Operative to join their busy operations and logistics team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys hands‑on work, outdoor environments, warehouse and yard operations, and being part of a fast‑paced operational team. The successful candidate will support the day‑to‑day running of the yard, equipment preparation, stock control, loading and unloading vehicles, and maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
Key Responsibilities- Attend the daily 7:30am Toolbox Talk and safety briefings
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard environment
- Report hazards, damage, or safety concerns using near‑miss and damage reporting procedures
- Carry out routine inspections, servicing, and maintenance of equipment
- Prepare and check equipment for upcoming assignments and operations
- Accurately pick equipment using load lists
- Load and unload vehicles, trailers, and stillages safely
- Secure loads using ratchet straps and correct load‑securing techniques
- Ensure trailers are secured in line with VOSA regulations
- Work with the operations team to monitor and maintain stock levels
- Ensure equipment is serviced, organised, and ready for despatch
- Support annual stock checks and asset identification processes
- Manually move stock, scaffolding, and equipment safely
- Follow correct yard labelling and identification procedures
- Complete near‑miss, accident, and damage reports accurately
- Ensure load lists are completed correctly
- Report missing equipment or items not returned from site
- Notify management of stock shortages or required consumables
- Maintain high Health and Safety standards within the yard and operational areas
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety documentation
- Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of colleagues
- Immediately report equipment defects, hazards, or accidents
- Comply fully with Health & Safety at Work legislation
- Work in line with the company's values, procedures, and operational standards
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude at all times
- Support the team through clear communication and teamwork
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
- Participate in ongoing training and development programmes
- Attend performance reviews and supervision sessions
- Opportunity to receive Forklift Truck (FLT) training after six months
- Salary up to £28,000 per annum
- Generous overtime available
- Monday – Friday: 1.5x hourly rate after 8 hours
- Saturday: 1.5x hourly rate
- Sunday: 1.5x hourly rate
- Bank Holidays: Double time
- 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
- Stable full‑time position
