About us

We are a national social justice charity with more than 50 years’ experience of helping some of the most marginalised people in our communities to see their future, whatever the past. Through our services and our campaigning work, we deliver real change for individuals and the systems that can hold people and our society back. We are mostly financed through public commissioning/funding from central and local government. So, how we manage our contracts and understand our financial performance really matters – not just to us, but to the people who rely on us.

The role

Our departing Head of Finance has established strong controls, effective transactional processes and clear reporting over the last five years. We are operating above the Board’s reserves policy and have just agreed a three-year growth strategy with a financial model in place using surpluses to invest in our ability to deliver greater impact. We are now seeking a new Head of Finance to maintain and continue to strengthen our Finance team and processes and to support our Executive team and Board to make informed decisions about the strategic development of the organisation. As the Head of Finance, you will report to the Director of Finance and Assurance and be responsible for overseeing all financial activities within the charity. You will lead the finance team, manage budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, and provide strategic financial insights to support business decisions. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the financial strategy of the business while ensuring financial stability and growth.

Why Join Us

We are offering a competitive salary and operate supportive policies and benefits. But, you’ll be joining us because you want to contribute to the impact we make on individuals and society. This is what matters to our colleagues (as shown by our recent People Survey):

  • “I believe that everyone should be given a second chance and that’s what Nacro does. It helps those who society shun and by doing so makes a huge positive impact on its service users.”
  • “Everyone is here to make a difference in people's lives. The passion with which staff act, especially considering the difficult situations they work, is inspiring.”
  • “I work with some amazing and inspiring people.”

Our finances and our financial systems and processes are in decent shape. But, there’s always more to do, and significant opportunities for the right candidate to shape our future as an organisation, and to lead and develop a finance function fit for the £100m turnover nationwide charity we anticipate becoming in the next few years. If you are a forward-thinking finance leader with a passion for driving business success, we look forward to hearing from you.
