Perform all aspects of rolling stock maintenance.
Job Description:
Essential Duties:
- Perform preventive maintenance such as changing oil and greasing and replacing components on a scheduled basis.
- Troubleshoot/diagnose heavy equipment malfunctions and replaces parts, repairs, and rebuilds as necessary.
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment using hoists and hand tools.
- Read blueprints and follow service manuals and parts lists in setting up and performing repairs and any rebuilds.
- Utilize work orders and requisitions for ordering parts and maintenance of equipment cost records.
- Advise when immediate shut-down of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when continued operation will have no harmful effect.
- Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures and state and federal environmental regulations.
Other Duties:
- Operate the equipment to diagnose problems.
- Operate light vehicles to travel throughout the mine site.
- Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
The successful applicant should have a background in repair and maintenance, including ability to read, understand, and use prints and manuals. They should also have knowledge of mechanical systems, i.e., engine, transmission, drive train, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical and air conditioning systems along with being skilled in diagnosing malfunctions. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions and be willing to work rotating shifts.
Educational Requirements:
On-the-job experience or vocational training (minimum qualifications for job advertisement - must pass the necessary written and practical tests for this position).
