About the Role

We are looking for a Marine Underwriter to join our Marine & Energy Treaty team in London. In this role, you'll take an active part in underwriting Marine treaty reinsurance business, working alongside experienced colleagues to deliver sound underwriting decisions and provide outstanding service to our clients and brokers. You'll have real ownership of your work, the opportunity to strengthen key relationships, and a platform to contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and success of the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyse and assess treaty reinsurance submissions, evaluating exposures, coverage, and pricing to identify and negotiate the best underwriting position for Swiss Re.
  • Underwrite Marine treaty reinsurance business across Cargo, Hull, Liability, Energy, and PVT, including preparing quotations, proposals, wordings, and clauses.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and brokers, identifying opportunities to deepen existing partnerships and support cross selling across other lines of business.
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy by supporting Marine portfolio initiatives, market analysis, and underwriting projects.
  • Share technical knowledge and market insights with colleagues, contributing to knowledge sharing initiatives and supporting the continuous development of the underwriting team.

Qualifications

  • Around 5-6 years of relevant experience within the insurance and/or reinsurance industry, gained in underwriting, broking, or another market-facing role.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess risk, interpret data, and exercise sound commercial judgement.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience in Marine, Energy, or PVT insurance or reinsurance is an advantage.
  • A strong commercial mindset, with the ability to identify and capitalise on market opportunities.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining close attention to detail.

Compensation

For the United Kingdom, the base salary range for this position is £106,000-£158,000 for a full time role. Additional factors considered in the salary offer include:

Working Model

Our company operates a hybrid working model, with the expectation that you will work from the office at least three days per week.
