The Mechanical Coordinator is responsible for taking completed estimates and transitioning them into a work breakdown structure that is clear and concise for execution by site operation teams.
Position Duties
- Act as a liaison between estimating and operations to ensure estimates include the required information and backup to clearly convey/document scope to site teams.
- Thorough and comprehensive understanding of project documents, scope and estimates.
- Document potential opportunities or risks.
- Prepare work breakdown documentation that will include planned costs, scheduling, equipment details, materials, special tools, externals services along with applicable contract documentation (drawings/specifications).
- Document and assist in the development of equipment control logs for required components based on estimates and project specifications/P&ID’s.
- Ensure work breakdown documentation clearly highlights compliance to all relevant policies and procedures along with applicable codes and specifications.
- Interface the baseline schedule with the work breakdown structure and resource load it with estimated budget hours.
- Work with trade superintendents to ensure that work breakdown structure (cost codes) accurately captures expected work productivity rates.
- Ensure deviations from the estimate are properly documented and communicated to project/operation managers.
- Review and maintain project constraint logs to ensure required documentation and materials are meeting required schedule timelines.
- Communicate with Project/Trade Superintendents when dates are not being met.
- Analyze productivity, trends and forecasts against estimates and make recommendations to site teams.
- Track productivity data trends to provide clear feedback to estimating teams for future tenders.
- Establish and assure adherence to production cost targets, schedules, work plans and performance targets.
- Maintain, improve and optimize work breakdown plans, strategies and procedures by utilizing continuous improvement initiatives and techniques.
- Use feedback loops to improve systems for optimization and cost reduction.
- Assist in the creation of ITP documentation for utilization of site teams.
- Generate RFI’s when drawings or specifications are identified as unclear.
- Give feedback to estimating when applicable so that common specification language that may be unclear can be addressed during the tender process.
Qualifications
- Possess a post-secondary degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant field.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency with Access & Power BI is an asset.
- Requires strong organizational and time management skills and close attention to detail.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communications skills and be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Must be highly collaborative and able to work in a team-based environment.
- Must have strong analytical skills and proven ability to effectively research and summarize information in an effective manner and make recommendations based upon analysis.
