NAC are looking for enthusiastic, keen to learn individuals that are over 21 years of age with a full driving license to join us as Trainee Domestic Appliance Engineers. As a trainee domestic appliance engineer, you will be trained to diagnose and repair faults to a huge range of multi-brand domestic appliances as a City & Guilds accredited engineer, such as:
- Washing Machines
- Dishwashers
- Tumble Dryers
We are looking for people who want to become a specialist in what they do. We are recruiting motivated people that we will train in-depth on the white goods appliance range to the point whereby in time, they become an expert on that product range.
Do you have great interpersonal skills? Can you work independently and have great problem-solving skills? If this sounds like you, we have an exciting opportunity, where you can take the next step in your career and work with a leading independent nationwide appliance repair brand.
What will you be doing on a daily basis? In this key role you will be carrying out field based repairs to domestic appliances that are installed at customer premises in-line with our high standards. As a field-based trainee domestic appliance engineer, you will be trained to carry out diagnostic testing to find faults and then given the skills to repair faulty appliances on all domestic white goods – washing machines, dryers, dishwashers, cookers and refrigeration. The daily role will involve travelling between 5-10 customers per day in the postcode areas that you are assigned upon joining. The successful candidate will show interpersonal skills with our customers at all times. They will also be responsible for diary management, supporting the triage of customer’s complaints, managing appointments and accurate field diagnostics and inventory. All of which are critical to the role.
Week 1 – Initial Induction: Initially, you will spend your first week having a full induction with one of our senior engineers. Administration aside, this week is primarily a chance for you to see what life will be like at NAC post training, first hand. It will give you a great insight into NAC and the standard of service we strive to offer our customers.
Week 2 & 3 – City & Guilds Accredited Foundation Training: You will attend our Wakefield based training centre where we’ll put you through our City & Guilds Accredited Foundation Training programme. This training has been specially designed to give a basic insight into all the appliance types, what components make them up, what the components do and how to fault find by testing all the components individually to find any that might be faulty.
Weeks 4-7 – Field Based Training: You will return to the area and senior engineer that you completed your week 1 induction with to start your field based training. During this time, you’ll be getting your hands on all the machines, under strict supervision to gain basic field experience. You will start to use our job management system and portals for technical assistance and you’ll fine-tune your inter-personal skills by dealing with different customers in different scenarios daily.
Week 8 – Final Assessments and Sign-Off: You will attend our Wakefield HQ one more time to formally complete your initial training and you will then be issued your company van and all equipment.
Week 9: You will begin your journey as a Trainee Domestic Appliance Engineer in your own area on a reduced allocation of 5 jobs per day. You will have full remote support and you will have a great bond with your mentor engineer by this point so even though you’ll be on patch in your own van, you’re never alone! From there, we will implement a plan consisting of a series of reviews to monitor your performance, give further training and re-assess your package.
Staying away from home (fully expensed): It is likely that you will have to stay away from home for the initial training period. Our training centre is based in Wakefield WF4 3BA and our remote, mentor engineers are based in different parts of the UK. We will obviously try our best to pair you with the most local mentor engineer for your initial training but even then, that may be more than a daily commute to get to. At worst, you may be expected to stay away from home, Monday – Thursday nights for the initial 7 weeks. If you do need to stay away from home, your travel, hotel and meals are all provided for you by NAC. You will not be required to work Saturdays or Sundays so you will always have the weekends to go home for some rest and relaxation time during the training period. Once you have completed your training, you only attend Wakefield for further one / two day courses or development training at planned intervals so there is no requirement for you to travel away from home frequently.
