We are looking for a Data Centre Operations Technician to support our Proximity Services team at the Slough Data Centre (LO5). The role involves delivering high‑quality service to all infrastructure and processes managed within the data centre.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical assistance and overall support to customers, delivering 24/7 coverage through a 12‑hour shift pattern.
- Install racks, housing, network and computer equipment, including shelves, power strips, rails and cable management.
- Identify and resolve hardware or cabling issues, replacing internal components, testing, tracing and labelling cabling as required.
- Uphold Data Centre Standards of tidiness, cleanliness, security, asset information and installations within the computer suites.
- Liaise with global teams, 3rd‑party engineers and contractors on hardware‑related issues and processes.
- Manage unmanned satellite and POP sites on the Slough campus, traveling to these sites as operationally required.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- Computer engineering experience and knowledge to achieve optimum methods of working.
- Cabling experience and knowledge to achieve optimum methods of working.
- Installation of rack‑mount kit including HP, Dell and Cisco.
- Hardware maintenance – swapping failed customer‑replaceable parts such as cache battery, HDD, Power Supply.
- Highly motivated with a positive, pro‑active attitude.
- Willingness to implement changes that improve operational efficiency through innovation, process and procedures.
- Ability to act rapidly and logically under pressure and using others to resolve problems.
- Capability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (English).
- Knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Excellent teamwork: listening, contributing to discussions and meetings.
- Customer and service focused, with determination to meet their needs.
Desirable Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
- ITIL Accreditation.
- Experience with HP One Service Manager (OSM).
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Flexibility.
