Role purpose
We’re in a defining moment of an incredible journey. Your main goal will be to build and scale a world-class, AI-first accounting and tax function that enables n8n’s hypergrowth while ensuring speed, accuracy, and regulatory excellence. You’ll take full ownership of core accounting operations, lead a growing team, modernize systems and processes, and act as a trusted partner across the business.
Responsibilities
- Core Accounting & Close Excellence: Own end-to-end accounting across AP, AR, GL, fixed assets, accruals, and deferrals with full accountability for accuracy and timeliness.
- Close & Reporting: Drive a reliable and repeatable ≤5-day monthly close with clear calendars, documentation, and controls. Prepare monthly and annual financial statements and coordinate statutory audits across entities.
- Group Accounting, Consolidation & Policy: Lead group consolidation and ensure consistent accounting policies across all legal entities. Own IFRS reporting, including SaaS revenue recognition, intercompany accounting, and consolidation mechanics. Define, document, and enforce scalable accounting standards fit for multi-entity growth.
- Tax, Compliance & Governance: Ensure VAT/GST and indirect tax compliance across markets and mitigate permanent establishment risks. Establish transfer pricing, intercompany agreements, and tax documentation in collaboration with advisors. Build a robust control framework aligned with audit readiness and future capital markets requirements.
- Treasury, Cash & Controls: Oversee payments, bank reconciliations, expense approvals, and payroll posting verification. Maintain short- and mid-term cash visibility and contribute to rolling cash forecasts. Reduce operational risk through segregation of duties and well-documented processes.
- Finance Systems & Automation: Evaluate and implement a next-generation ERP and scalable finance automation stack. Drive automation of routine entries, approvals, and reconciliations to improve efficiency and accuracy. Build durable process documentation that raises the bus factor across Finance Ops.
- Leadership & Cross-functional Partnership: Lead and develop a team of Senior Accountants and Finance Operations roles with a builder-coach mindset. Partner with RevOps, People, Legal, Data, Engineering, and GTM on cross-functional initiatives. Prepare the accounting, tax, and control environment for future milestones such as a potential IPO.
Requirements
Must-haves:
- Senior accounting leadership: 12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3–5+ years in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment with multi-entity operations.
- IFRS & SaaS expertise: Strong international accounting and tax knowledge, including SaaS revenue recognition, recurring billing, intercompany accounting, and group consolidation.
- Process & control builder: Known for designing and scaling accounting processes, accelerating close cycles, and raising quality in fast-growing environments.
- Finance systems fluency: Proficient with modern ERPs and finance tooling across AP, AR, and expenses, and comfortable leading system implementations.
- Leadership & communication: Strong judgment, analytical rigor, and clear communication skills; comfortable working in distributed, cross-border teams in English.
Nice-to-haves: Audit background (Big 4), Local GAAP & Germany expertise (HGB and German tax), formal qualifications (Accounting/Finance degree or equivalent), scale-up experience, and automation mindset.
