We give technical teams the freedom of code with the speed of no-code, so they can automate faster, smarter, and without limits. Backed by a fiercely inventive community and 500+ builder-approved integrations, we’re changing the way people bring systems together and scale ideas for impact.
Since our founding in 2019, we’ve grown into a diverse team of over 220 – working across Europe and the US, connected by a shared builder spirit and with our centre of gravity in Berlin. Along the way, we’ve:
- Cultivated a community of more than 650,000 active developers and builders.
- Earned 145k+ GitHub stars, making us one of the world’s Top 40 most popular projects.
- Been ranked as one of Europe’s most promising privately held SaaS startups (4th in Sifted’s 2025 B2B SaaS Rising 100).
- Raised $240m to date, from Sequoia’s first German seed to our recent $180m Series C, bringing us to a $2.5bn valuation.
Your main goal will be to build and lead an engineering team that thrives in a fast-moving AI-native world – developing engineers, creating clarity, and delivering meaningful outcomes with strong technical judgment. This is a first-line engineering leadership role for someone who is deeply technical, but whose real strength is building teams: empowering engineers on their growth path, aligning stakeholders, and helping people move with confidence as technology, customer needs, and opportunities evolve quickly around them.
We’re hiring Engineering Managers across multiple product and platform areas, and during the interview process you’ll be matched to a team based on your strengths and what you’re most excited to work on.
Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, helping them grow in ownership, performance, and long-term career development.
- Create a high-trust environment where people can learn in action, make decisions with confidence, and do their best work together.
- Support hiring, onboarding, and team shaping as we continue scaling engineering at n8n.
- Build clarity and confidence as the landscape evolves.
- Help your team stay focused and effective as priorities evolve, new opportunities emerge, and AI continues to reshape how products are built.
- Communicate clearly and credibly through change, giving engineers the context and direction they need to move forward with confidence.
- Turn complexity into momentum by helping your team focus on what matters most without getting slowed down by unnecessary uncertainty or process.
- Drive execution with speed, judgment, and alignment.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to align on priorities, trade-offs, and what success looks like.
- Bring the right level of structure to your team, using process where it helps and keeping things lightweight where it doesn’t.
- Keep the team accountable to meaningful outcomes while balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability.
- Lead with technical credibility.
- Bring enough technical depth to mentor engineers, challenge decisions thoughtfully, and maintain a high bar for engineering quality.
- Support architectural and delivery decisions across your area, helping the team make sound trade-offs around scalability, reliability, and speed.
- Step into technical details or code when needed to unblock or support the team, while keeping your primary focus on people leadership and team effectiveness.
Requirements:
Must-haves:- First-line engineering management experience: You’ve been a first-line Engineering Manager for at least 2 years and have experience directly leading engineers in a growing product organization.
- Strong people leadership: You know how to coach, give clear feedback, support career growth, and handle hard conversations with empathy, honesty, and accountability.
- Composure in fast-moving environments: You help your team stay focused, confident, and effective as priorities evolve, bringing optimism, sound judgment, and a clear path forward even when the environment is moving fast.
- Hands-on experience as a software engineer: You have a strong software engineering background and can confidently mentor engineers, contribute to system and architecture discussions, and assess technical trade-offs.
- Comfortable being hands-on when needed: You can go deep into technical details or code to unblock, challenge, or support your team, but you know your main job is not to be on the critical path.
- Cross-functional alignment: Experience collaborating with Product, Design, and other stakeholders, as you align different perspectives into a clear path forward.
- High-growth SaaS experience: You’ve worked in a high-growth SaaS company and know how to build strong teams, scale with intention, and are excited to reach ambitious goals together with your team.
- TypeScript / Node.js familiarity: You’ve worked with JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js and could quickly build context in our stack.
- Open-source or developer tooling interest: You’re excited by technical products, builder communities, and the challenges that come with extensible software and automation.
- AI product exposure: You’ve worked near AI-native products, AI features, or teams exploring how AI is changing product experiences and engineering execution.
