N.E.J. Stevenson is a privately owned, Midlands-based manufacturer of exceptional bespoke furniture and joinery. Since 1992 we have worked continuously with the Royal Household and were granted a Royal Warrant in 2003. Our clients include conservation charities, English Heritage, The National Trust, public schools, interior designers, architects, construction companies and private clients.

We are looking for a skilled and experienced Lead Wood Machinist to join our machine shop team. This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who takes pride in precision craftsmanship, understands the art of material selection, and is passionate about producing components of the highest structural and aesthetic quality. Responsibilities
  • Lead a skilled machining team to meet manufacturing targets.
  • Produce high‑quality, accurate components to specification.
  • Select appropriate materials for optimal finish and consistency.
  • Proactively identify design, materials, and construction challenges.
  • Mentor and develop an apprentice on a daily basis.
  • Contribute to innovation in methods, materials, and equipment.
Requirements
  • Minimum of 3 years’ proven wood machining experience in a furniture making/joinery workshop environment.
  • Strong materials knowledge and selection skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Experience with or willingness to mentor apprentices.
  • Sound understanding of health & safety legislation.
  • Proactive mindset and passion for continuous improvement.
