Role Overview

The Release Train Engineer (RTE) functions as a servant leader & coach for one or more Agile Release Trains (ARTs) ensuring alignment across teams, optimizing delivery workflows, and driving continuous improvement in a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment. The RTE works closely with Product Owners, Scrum Masters, stakeholders, and delivery teams to facilitate planning, execution, and delivery of value in large-scale software programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Agile & SAFe Delivery
  • Act as servant leader & facilitator for the Agile Release Train (ART).
  • Plan and drive Program Increment (PI) events, system demos, Scrum of Scrums, and inspect-and-adapt workshops.
  • Coordinate dependencies, risks, and impediments across multiple teams and features, and escalate issues when needed.
  • Team Coaching & Collaboration
    • Coach and mentor Scrum Masters, Product Owners, and Agile teams on Lean-Agile and SAFe principles.
    • Foster alignment between business strategy, product vision, and execution priorities.
    • Work with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure engineering and business goals are met.
  • Process Execution & Improvement
    • Ensure transparency and continuous improvement of delivery processes and metrics.
    • Drive planning readiness and cadence across team backlogs (features, capabilities, epics).
    • Assist in creating reports on ART performance, flow metrics, risk registers, and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Collaborate with Product Management, architecture leaders, programme managers and customers to clarify requirements and integration needs.
    • Communicate ART progress, priorities, and blockers to business owners and senior leadership.

    Qualifications & Skills

    Essential

    • Bachelor’s degree in IT/Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
    • 4+ years of experience in IT or Agile delivery roles including proven experience in Release Train Engineer, Scrum Master, or similar positions.
    • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies & SAFe practices.
    • Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

    Desirable

    • Certified SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) or other Agile certifications (CSM, CSP, PMI-ACP, etc.).
    • Hands-on experience with tools like JIRA, Confluence, Agile metrics reporting.
    • Experience coaching Agile teams across multiple ARTs.
    • Familiarity with Lean Portfolio Management and continuous delivery practices.
