Could You Be the Difference in a Young Carer's Life? Thousands of children and young people across Staffordshire help care for a family member every day. While many take on this responsibility quietly, the impact on their wellbeing, education and opportunities can be significant.

At N-Compass, we're passionate about ensuring Young Carers are recognised, supported and empowered to achieve their full potential. We're looking for a dedicated and compassionate Young Carers Practitioner to join our Staffordshire Together for Carers Service and help make that happen.

About the Role

This role is primarily focused on working out in the community directly with Young Carers, families, schools and community partners across Staffordshire County. You'll spend much of your time out in local communities, education settings and family homes, building relationships and delivering support where it's needed most. The position is offered on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity leave and is currently expected to continue until October 2027. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a passionate team, gain valuable experience and make a genuine difference in the lives of Young Carers and their families.

As a Young Carers Practitioner, you'll provide tailored, person-centred support that helps reduce the impact of caring responsibilities and improves outcomes for children and young people.

You'll help Young Carers to:

  • Access the right support, services and opportunities
  • Build confidence, resilience and wellbeing
  • Understand their caring role and the support available to them
  • Connect with peer support, activities and community opportunities
  • Develop skills that help them achieve their full potential

No two days are the same. You could be delivering one-to-one support, running peer support groups, visiting schools to raise awareness, attending multi-agency meetings, or helping families access the support they need.

Why Join n-compass?

At n-compass, we're committed to creating brighter futures for people, families and communities. We're looking for people who share our commitment to:

  • Putting children, young people and families at the heart of everything we do
  • Equality, inclusion and anti-discriminatory practice
  • Safeguarding and promoting welfare
  • Partnership working and community engagement
  • Innovation, collaboration and continuous improvement
  • Helping people achieve positive outcomes in their lives

About You

You'll be someone who can build trust with children, young people and families and who is passionate about making a positive difference. We're particularly keen to hear from candidates who have experience of:

  • Providing one-to-one support to children and young people
  • Delivering groups, activities or workshops
  • Working with families using a whole-family approach
  • Multi-agency partnership working
  • Supporting people to access information, services and opportunities
  • Producing accurate reports and maintaining records
  • Using digital systems and Microsoft Office confidently

Experience supporting Young Carers, working within education settings or knowledge of carers' legislation would be advantageous.

What You'll Need

  • Access to a private vehicle
  • Willingness to travel throughout Staffordshire
  • Flexibility to occasionally work evenings, weekends and school holiday activities
  • A commitment to safeguarding and supporting children and young people
  • An Enhanced DBS check (required for the successful applicant)

The Difference You'll Make

The support you provide could help a Young Carer:

  • Feel understood and less isolated
  • Build confidence and self-esteem
  • Access new opportunities and experiences
  • Improve their wellbeing and resilience
  • Achieve their goals whilst balancing their caring responsibilities

In short, you'll be helping young people thrive, not just cope. Apply today and help us create brighter futures for Young Carers across Staffordshire.
