What you'll do as an Analytics Engineer at N Brown
This role is pivotal in leading the strategy, development and implementation of the data architecture for the Decision Intelligence team. A key enabler for the data science and analytics functions. Accountable for ensuring that data is readily available, quick and usable for the data science and analytics teams. The successful post holder will have strong commercial drive, business acumen and a proven track record of building highly performant data architecture. Reporting to the head of group Decision Intelligence, this role is fundamental to enabling our data teams to work quickly and effectively.
- Strategy and vision: Defining and executing the overall analytics engineering strategy and roadmap, aligning this to business objectives. This role will also be required to be hands-on in delivering the roadmap. Help to promote a data driven culture within the organisation, by educating stakeholders, providing access to data where needed and encouraging the use of data.
- Data Governance: Establishing and enforcing data governance policies, standards and best practices for data quality, security and compliance with the decision intelligence function.
- Data modelling: Overseeing the design, development and maintenance of data models, ensuring they are accurate and efficient.
- Data infrastructure: Collaborating with the data engineering and IT teams to build and maintain the data infrastructure for the Decision Intelligence team. This includes data pipelines, storage solutions and analytics platforms.
- Data Quality and Assessment: Responsible for ensuring the accuracy, reliability and accessibility of data for all analytical purposes. Identifying opportunities to improve data collection and processing and leveraging new technologies and techniques where appropriate.
What are we looking for
- Extensive experience in analytics engineering or data engineering within digital, retail, or fast-paced commercial environments.
- Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, with hands-on experience in modern data stack tools (e.g., docker, AWS Athena, BigQuery).
- Proven ability to design and maintain scalable, reliable data models and optimize pipelines for analytics and data science use cases.
- Skilled at translating complex business requirements into robust technical solutions that drive measurable impact.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of influencing and educating non-technical teams.
- Commercially minded, leveraging data to inform strategic and operational decisions.
- Familiarity with data governance, architecture principles, and best practices; able to contribute to evolving frameworks.
- Comfortable balancing hands-on delivery with long-term strategy and roadmap development.

Ways of Working
We offer hybrid working which varies across the business depending on the role you're in. Our Head Office is located in the Northern Quarter in Manchester City Centre. So if you are travelling by train, tram or bus we're perfectly located, plus we're surrounded by cool cafes, trendy bars and the best places to eat! Our full-time working hours are 36.17 per week over 5-days. We don't have strict working hours therefore there is some flexibility around start and finish times as long as you are meeting the needs of the business.
