We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Operations Engineer with ideally several years or more of expertise in supporting 24x7 service availability and driving the growth of our cloud services based in either our Dundee or Edinburgh hub. This role involves managing critical infrastructure, providing continuous delivery solutions, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimize system performance and security. You will have significant experience with cloud service providers, automation tools, and orchestration, along with a deep understanding of infrastructure scalability and security best practices. The role is hybrid and requires 2 days a week in the office.

What You’ll Do

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and management of cloud infrastructure to ensure 24x7 service availability and high performance
  • Lead the provisioning, installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance of cloud-based infrastructure
  • Manage and optimize continuous delivery pipelines within cloud environments (AWS, Azure) using orchestration tools like Ansible, Terraform, and Kubernetes
  • Develop, script, and automate processes for deployment, configuration, and monitoring using Python, Powershell and Bash
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure issues, ensuring minimal downtime and efficient problem resolution
  • Participate in weekly on-call rotation or occasional weekend support for critical activities during non-production hours
  • Ensure the infrastructure is secure, following best practices for security in cloud environments
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and DevOps teams to ensure infrastructure aligns with business goals and scalability requirements
  • Implement monitoring and alerting solutions to track system health, leveraging tools like Splunk and other open-source monitoring tools
  • Lead the optimization and configuration of databases for improved performance and scalability

What You’ll Bring

  • Ideally several years or more of experience in operations engineering or infrastructure management
  • Expertise in cloud service providers (AWS, Azure) with a deep understanding of their services
  • Extensive experience with Ansible, Terraform, and Kubernetes for automation and orchestration
  • Advanced proficiency in scripting with Python and Bash
  • Strong experience in cloud-native applications, CI/CD, and container orchestration
  • Experience as a Linux Administrator, including system configuration, troubleshooting, and performance tuning
  • Knowledge of security best practices for cloud environments and infrastructure
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues and ensuring high availability at scale
  • Solid understanding of database optimization, configuration, and support
  • Strong leadership and mentorship skills with a proven ability to design and build highly scalable, reliable, and secure systems
