Our vacancy can be filled by either a highly capable recent graduate or at a higher level by an engineer with 2-5 years’ experience. We require a graduate in Computer Science/Information Technology/Electronics/Science or an IT professional with equivalent experience.

You will be part of a team that develops software tools to perform QA and test of a complex family of enterprise network attached data storage products used by many of the largest corporations in the world. Your role will be to design, develop, test, deploy and support the software tools required by the R&D and QA teams.

This vacancy lies within our R&D services team and is based in Bristol working on-site at Hewlett-Packard. The QA processes and test suites you will work on are developed in Perl/XML/C# while the system under test is developed in C & C++ on Linux. Application of state of the art QA processes and tools is key as you drive the QA function to world leading levels of maturity.

You will review requirements, specifications, designs, QA processes, test tools and test plans to assure product quality and will develop and implement the tools necessary to enhance QA performance and ensure higher levels of product quality and performance assurance. You will work in an agile development environment directly with the software development teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's (undergraduate) degree or equivalent experience in a technical discipline (e.g. computer science, information technology, engineering, mathematics, physics, etc.)
  • ISEB/ISTQB Testing Certifications would be a bonus.
  • This role is available to candidates with 2+ years’ experience or possibly a highly capable new graduate with expertise in OO Perl.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Recent graduate or 2-5+ years’ successful software development preferably in a hardware/systems QA/test environment
  • Experience in both software and hardware product design/development.
  • As much experience as possible in test tools development.
  • As much experience as possible in test script development.
  • Experience in QA/test of both new product developments and live/shipping products.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams as well as practical experience in all phases of the software development life cycle.
  • Experience in agile development bringing together software development and QA.
  • Perl (including OO Perl)

  • Complex software applications/systems
  • Complex file system implementations
  • Server and networked devices
  • Analytical ability in order to research technical issues and generate creative/innovative solutions.
  • Strong project management/development process skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and oral).
  • A self-starting, motivated, ambitious individual with a strong desire and ability to learn quickly is required for this role.

  • Tape backup and tape library products.
  • Any of the following technologies SCSI, iSCSI, RAID, TCP/IP incl IPv6
  • Backup application software products
  • Knowledge of needs and complexity of test scheduling and tools/test deployment: tools such as Chef (inc RPM, MSI), Jenkins
  • Familiarity with databases and their interaction (mysql, ms sql, oracle, SQL…)
  • Familiarity of ESX/VMWare/Virtualization
  • Awareness, familiarity of GUI testing principles and automation (QTP, Selenium)
