At N-able, we are on the lookout for a skilled Technical Writer for a maternity cover who has the knack for breaking down complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and easy-to-understand documentation. As an integral part of our documentation creation team, you will work closely with our globally diverse teams to produce high-quality documentation that enhances user understanding and engagement.

Our ideal candidate is not just a proficient writer but also a curious learner, eager to dive deep into technology and innovate ways to communicate technical information. This is a 6 month fixed term hybrid role requiring 2 days a week in the office.

The role is based in our Edinburgh hub.

What You\’ll Do

  • Content Development : Craft, edit, and update guides, troubleshooting articles and other types of technical documentation to support product launches and updates.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with technical and non-technical teams to gather information, verify content accuracy, and ensure our documents meet user needs and company standards.
  • User Focus : Tailor documentation for various user personas, ensuring clarity, accessibility, and effectiveness in addressing user questions and challenges.
  • Quality Assurance : Review and revise documentation based on feedback from various sources to maintain our high standards of quality and consistency.
  • Tools and Technologies : Utilize the latest documentation tools and technologies to enhance the delivery and accessibility of content, keeping abreast of trends in technical writing and content presentation.

What You\’ll Bring

  • Experience: Solid technical writing experience in software, technology, or a related field, with a demonstrated ability to describe complex and technical topics clearly and accurately. Our products offer innovative solutions, and it\’s crucial to communicate their capabilities effectively to our users.
  • Technical and Editing Skills: Comfortable with technical concepts and able to learn new technologies quickly. Proven technical editing skills are essential, including the ability to edit documentation for accuracy, brevity, and clarity.
  • Tools Proficiency : Proficient use of documentation tools is essential, including working knowledge of MadCap Flare, TechSmith SnagIt, GitHub, as well as Atlassian Confluence, and Jira. Basic HTML, CSS and JavaScript is beneficial.
  • Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a particular focus on American English and grammar. Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills are crucial for effective collaboration with the Information Development and wider Education team, Engineering, Support, and other departments within N-able. The ability to interact comfortably with team members across the organization and globe is key to our collective success.
  • Us er-centric approach: The ability to tailor documentation for various user personas, ensuring it is accessible, effective, and efficient. Time is valuable for our customers, and our documentation must enable them to quickly and easily find the relevant information.
  • Organizational Skills: Willingness and ability to manage a varied workload, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines and project requirements. This includes maintaining high standards of quality and consistency in documentation while adapting to new challenges and changes in product development.
  • Education: A Bachelor or Master’s degree in Communication, English, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience would be an added bonus.
