We are currently looking for an Operations & Delivery Manager – Grid to join our growing Grid team in the UK. Reporting to the Head of Grid, you will lead the delivery of grid connection projects for utility-scale and renewable energy projects, primarily across Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). You will have end-to-end ownership of Grid Works, from design coordination through construction, commissioning, energisation and handover. The role carries responsibility for both construction and electrical infrastructure delivery, working closely with DNOs, IDNOs, TSOs, NESO, clients, subcontractors and internal teams.

Your role will encompass:

  • Leading the delivery of grid connections across 11kV–132kV, with exposure to 400kV where applicable, primarily for Solar PV and BESS projects.
  • Managing private, contestable and non-contestable works where applicable.
  • Coordinating design teams and design subcontractors, including overseeing submissions to DNOs, TSOs and NESO.
  • Working closely with Procurement to ensure the timely ordering and delivery of project equipment.
  • Taking overall responsibility for construction delivery, including civil works, substations, HV/LV cabling, switchgear, transformers and protection systems.
  • Leading project commissioning, testing, protection validation, DNO witness testing, energisation and handover.
  • Managing PGMD/ONCC submissions to DNOs/NESO.
  • Leading multidisciplinary site teams, including Construction Managers, Site Managers, Supervisors, Site Engineers and subcontractors.
  • Driving effective coordination and sequencing between civil and electrical works.
  • Providing operational leadership across Grid Project Management, Technical & Design and Site Delivery teams.
  • Ensuring effective resource allocation across multiple renewable energy projects.
  • Building and managing a strong subcontractor network, working with the Tender & Contracts Manager on subcontractor selection and securing final approval from the Head of Grid.
  • Working collaboratively with HSE, Legal and other central functions to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Ensuring compliance with DNO standards, NERS accreditation and CDM regulations.
  • Acting as the primary operational interface with clients, DNOs/TSOs, subcontractors and local authorities where applicable.
  • Ensuring projects are delivered in line with programme, budget, design and quality requirements.
  • Supporting the Tender & Commercial team with successful tender submissions and project mobilisation.
  • Driving operational improvements and implementing processes and procedures to support efficient delivery.
  • Supporting the continued growth and scaling of METLEN's Grid delivery capabilities.
  • Contributing to strategic planning, including the development of transmission connection and wider grid infrastructure projects.

What you bring to the role:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Strong experience in ICP or utility construction delivery, ideally within renewable energy connections.
  • Proven experience managing both civil and electrical construction on infrastructure projects.
  • Strong experience delivering HV installations across 11kV–132kV.
  • Proven experience delivering LV/MV/HV connection designs across 11kV–132kV.
  • Deep understanding of NERS accreditation, CDM Regulations, DNO standards and adoption processes.
  • Experience leading multi-site construction teams and complex infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience managing and developing Project Managers and Site Teams.
  • Strong technical, construction and operational leadership capability.
  • Strong understanding of grid infrastructure constraints.
  • Commercial and contractual awareness, with the ability to manage complex, high-value projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and negotiation skills.
  • A proactive, accountable and solutions-focused approach to project delivery.
