As we continue our rapid growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Software Tester to join our development team. This is an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented Software Tester to contribute to the quality and reliability of a fast-growing SaaS platform within a collaborative engineering environment. The role of a Software Tester (QA)
As a Software Tester, you will work closely with our Product Owner and Software Engineers to ensure new and existing features are thoroughly tested before release. This is a hands-on role focused on delivering high-quality testing, identifying issues, and contributing to overall product quality and release confidence. The role includes both manual and automated testing activities as we continue to expand our automation capability and quality assurance processes.
The main responsibilities of a Software Tester
- Manual Testing and Documentation
- Execute manual test cases for web and mobile components of the platform
- Record test results with clarity and accuracy
- Log and track bugs using tools such as Jira, providing clear reproduction steps
- Perform regression testing for new releases, bug fixes, and deployments
- Maintain and update test documentation and testing scenarios
- Conduct exploratory testing to identify usability, workflow, and edge-case issues
- Test Design Support
- Review user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria alongside Product and Engineering colleagues
- Create and maintain structured test cases and testing scenarios
- Prepare and validate test data for test execution
- Collaborate closely with Software Engineers to understand expected behaviour and technical implementation
- Automated Testing
- Execute and review automated test suites
- Support the maintenance and improvement of automated test coverage
- Contribute to writing automated test cases for key workflows and functionality
- Build capability and practical experience working with automation frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, and release validation processes
- Collaboration and Communication
- Participate in sprint ceremonies including backlog refinement, planning, and retrospectives
- Provide structured feedback on defects, risks, and areas for improvement
- Contribute ideas to improve QA processes, release quality, and testing standards
- Contribute ideas to improve regression coverage, release management, automation coverage and overall product quality
- Work within an Agile development environment with regular sprint planning, refinement, and retrospective ceremonies.
Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of 3 years commercial experience in software testing, QA, or a related technical role
- Strong manual testing capability with excellent attention to detail
- Understanding of automated testing concepts and why they are used in modern software delivery
- Familiarity with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Understanding of APIs and API testing concepts
- Working knowledge of Java to support automation debugging and test validation activities
- Commercial experience contributing to automated test suites using Selenium, TestNG and Java or similar automation frameworks
- Understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile methodologies
- Comfortable documenting test results and writing clear bug reports
- Confident using technology and learning new tools
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, organised, and team-focused approach
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience with Jira or similar issue-tracking tools
- Familiarity with test management tools such as TestRail
- Experience testing SaaS or web-based applications
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and release workflows
- Experience or study in Computer Science or a related field
- Experience within EdTech or education environments
- Experience testing REST APIs using tools such as Postman or Insomnia, including validating responses, payloads, headers and status codes

Job location: This role is based at our office at Wrest Park, Silsoe (MK45 4HR) with hybrid working on Fridays. A relocation support allowance may be available for an exceptional candidate relocating within the UK.
Working pattern: Full-time, 37.5 hours (Monday to Friday). All-year-round (52 weeks).
