Salary: Band 8, £36,066 - £41,028 (Please note it is Northumbria Police policy to appoint at the beginning of the band)

Location: Based at Middle Engine Lane, Wallsend, with travel to other Force locations as required.

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday

The role

This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Crime Department as a Police Staff Investigator (PIP 2). This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in supporting victims, witnesses and communities by conducting high-quality investigations, developing robust evidential files and contributing to positive criminal justice outcomes. You'll work alongside a range of internal and external partners, helping to safeguard vulnerable individuals and support them through the criminal justice process.

What you’ll do

• Manage complex investigations, developing lines of enquiry and gathering evidence to support criminal justice outcomes.
• Interview victims, witnesses and suspects, obtaining statements and evidential accounts.
• Review, analyse and evaluate evidence, preparing comprehensive case files and reports for submission to the Crown Prosecution Service.
• Identify and manage risk, ensuring appropriate safeguarding measures are in place to support vulnerable victims and witnesses.
• Work closely with partner agencies and colleagues to support investigations, disrupt criminal activity and achieve positive outcomes.
• Act as a key point of contact for victims and witnesses, providing updates and support throughout the criminal justice process.
• Attend court and multi-agency meetings as required, presenting evidence and representing the investigation professionally.

What you’ll bring

• Professionalising Investigations Programme (PIP Level 2) accreditation.
• The ability to organise and prioritise workloads effectively, managing competing deadlines.
• Experience of interviewing suspects, victims and witnesses.
• A proven ability to deliver work within tight timescales.
• Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to produce detailed, accurate and professional reports.
• Good spreadsheet skills.
• Knowledge of the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996.
• A thorough understanding of the criminal justice system.
• A meticulous and professional approach to investigations and case management.

Terms of appointment

This is a fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period. If you are successful in your application, you will have a six-month probation period with us where you will be unable to apply for any other post advertised internally or externally.
